Would it be possible to give us one minute to correct typos after posting and not have this message appear; Message edited by author 2009-12-16 13:52:05.

On my gaming forum this is installed so it doesn't look like some are changing their post after the fact to accommodate their changing POV or whatever.

60 seconds, that's all I ask. :D

use the preview post option - and stare at it for 60 seconds ?

Could always 'preview' your post before posting.

Guess I'm too used to my gaming forum.

Off to get them to install preview button.... ;\

i guess i don't see the point of the delay. if you messed up the post, and then have to wait a minute to view it. you'd still have to edit it once it's posted.. no ?

I know. I'm just used to the other forum where I don't preview my post but reread it after posting it. Editing it within one minute doesn't automatically insert the Message edited by author note. I don't like to see that in my posts just because I misspelled a word.

now i know what you're talking about.

i guess you don't instant message or text much ?

:)

ETA - i keep edting them on purpose. sort of.

Note that one of the major improvements to the new PM system is the addition of the Preview button -- with the old system there was no way to preview or edit the message.

Nothing I know of other than further discussion of watermarking ... :-(

I've previewed my post(s) and still cocked it up...

I totally agree with Jac (and not just because I find his new profile pic so adorable) - it would be nice to have a short grace period to fix up oopsies.

That's why there's a timestamp that goes with it. The opinion of anyone ignorant enough to call you out for editing your post, but doesn't first look to see when you edited it, is worthless.

There - edited :). Whatcha gonna do, call me out on it?

What if we went the other way and the system added some text below your original post to show what you edited. Wouldn't that be a real PITA.

blaa blaa blaa

eta: blaa blaa blaa - added by the system to show what the user edited.

Ugh... *sigh* so typical of someone who waits a whole 57 seconds to edit his posts...

Seriously whats the big deal with your post being marked "Message edited by author". I would guess that my post are edited 7 out of 10 times. Some because of spelling errors. More due to grammar errors, but most due to trying to type to fast and mistakes is are made.

I frequent another forum where it is custom to detail the reason why you are editing your post after that minute goes by. It is done out of politeness to each other because some have edited their posts to mean something entirely different, after seeing that some other members weren't too happy about the initial post.

That's all. :)

I have the Message edited by author message in so many of my posts I almost think its part of my signature. :)
12/17/2009 03:45:39 PM · #22
If you dont like it just edit the post and remove it. easy.

;)

Somehow I don't think this will get implemented soon. Not after seeing some of the replies in this thread.

Simms, lol. I've been trying for the past 10 minutes but it always comes back. ;\
