Anyone who tells there friends to vote high marks on their own pictures does not really care about what people think of their submission. They just want to win! I would ignore them! Let them vote whatever they think the photo deserves.

The people that know which photos are mine don't vote on it. I would stop telling them, just to see what they would rate it, but I'm not that disciplined. So they just don't vote, and that's fine with me.

You can tell when the challenge is all over, and all the comments on that photo say "Hey "NAME HERE", Great shot!". Or the shots that say "PS, looking forward to seeing you this weekend" LOL. Check for them, they're out there.

I'd prefer them to try to vote impartially on it. After all, I won't know what score they gave me.

You'd have to befriend a large percentage of people and guarantee their vote in order for any of that to really make an effect. Statistics.

There are quite a few people who also post their shots on other websites during the challenge, myself included. I wouldnt give someone a 10 just because I know who took the pic. The picture has to stand on its own, if you keep telling your friends that their pictures are great because you dont want to hurt their feelings, your not helping them at all. Rate the picture for what it deserves, not for who the photographer is. On another note, There are people here who can be identified by their style alone :)

I like to ask other people's opinions of my choices before I decide which pic to submit. There are also a few people in the chat who I share my entry with. It may affect the comment, but I know that I don't change the score based on the photographer. I have a sneaky suspicion that my boyfriend is giving me high scores every week (blinded by the love I guess), but the total number of ppl who know my submission is usually equal to maybe 3% of the total vote which isn't huge even if they were giving 10s.

Some friends I've got. I've emailed everyone I know my pictures and came in 103rd and 105th in the last two weeks.

The jig is up, guys! He's figured us out!

LOL....j/k

Occasionally someone in chat will ask for input on which choice to submit.

I score their photo just as I would any other, perhaps even more harshly if anything.

I expect the very few people who know my entry to do the same.

Whilst it's hard to accept a low rank/ score it's futile trying to think of excuses for why you didn't score more highly.

It's pretty much going to be because in the views of this particular audience (and it is a particular audience with certain trends and patterns in what is and isn't popular) your entry just doesn't cut it.

I know mine don't deserve to score more highly, I just submit for the feedback and the fun.

two of my friends compete, but i don't vote on their pics. i'm sure the admins have a way to check this too, btw. :P

My wife votes sometimes, but I haven't gotten a 10 from her yet... She's a tough grader... Especially on mine.

yeah. sometimes that's the case.

I think there's a huge difference in asking photogs I respect to look at my pic and asking them to vote it high. If you mean to say that the winners are cheating, I'll argue that sharing the pic sure doesn't guarantee high scores... Mine stinks most weeks, regardless of whether anyone knows what it is! My friends must not be getting the hint, or else there aren't but 4 or 5 of them. Maybe that's it. Maybe statistics work...

The comment that baffles me is that the admins supposedly will know if my friends vote high on my pics????? Boy, Mr. 1984, Big Brother has nothing on Drew and Langdon! :)

It sucks that people are asking for personal votes to increase the score. But you guys need to relax...this is a website created by two 23 year old guys to pass time and to allow amatures to display their photography...it's really not that important to fret over.

Before bandying this accusation around further, can I ask if there is any basis for this claim other than some assumptions that certain images couldn't possibly score as highly as they do score without some kind of intervention?

If there is no basis for this accusation then I think it might be better to concentrate more on improving one's own photography and less on inventing excuses for why other people's images scored highly.

Taste is a very individual thing so whilst there are always some photos that score highly and which I think are not very appealing (and vice versa) I would never assume that this has occured because of cheating - that suggests that I think only my opinion on those images is valid.

Smells of sour grapes to me.

No sour grapes here... I refuse to take myself that seriously. Sometimes it's frustrating, but all in all I have enough ego to get me through poor scores.

I ask this question in a more lighthearted way. I loved myqyl's reply... that's hysterical.

Than again, I am considering becoming a member just to see if the member scoring is any different.

It may be too early to tell for sure, but it my first impression is that member challenge scores are a tad lower... That, or my member challenge submissions haven't been all that great :)

I think it's a combination of the two :)

I hope you're right as my submissions to the member challenge seem to be doing a tad better than usual!
I'm guessing member challenges will have fewer of those "stray" 1's and 2's, and that we won't experience the vote "bump" we're used to just before the final vote is calculated.
