How about a Free study challenge for the non members? Classic Editing or even Advanced I guess would be cool. And the members, if they wanted could comment on all of them and give us losers pointers

Or they could enter as well. Anything that's open to registered users is also open to members.

Or, maybe just pay the 7 cents per day and become a member for a year?

Yep, Free Studies, and member challenges in general, are some of the perks that paid members pay for. :-)

Sean, it looks like you participate in the site plenty, it's a fairly small fee, you'd probably get a lot out of becoming a full member. Besides, the blue shirts are just way cool. :-)

You can also try it out for one month for only a $5 investment.

Too weird, I have been here 2 years and never knew the Free Studies where for members only.

I gotta get my head out of the sand sometimes!

I wouldn't pay to use this site if you gave me the money...I suggest a challenge and you members have to ruin it with your dumbass comments...you're all the same...I mean what would be wrong with having 1 challenge that you guys couldn't shove your water drops, fruit flies and shoehorned landscapes into...all of which are so heavily edited that you can't really call it photography anymore...so piss off

Whats wrong guys, scared you might loose to us lower class folks?

Here's the thing.....if you don't like the way the site is run, the responses to your suggestions,
or have any regard for the people here, (by your response) then I'd suggest that you will be the one doing
the latter part of your statement.

There is this thing called freedom of speech...I am entitled to my own opinion, which in this case is correct

Actually this isn't a democracy, this is Langdon's site, and your actions are very close to going over the line on conduct. i'd suggest you back down your tone, before you get a note from the dictator himself.

I hate it when this happens. You know, the waterdrop thing...

Oops! Dang, that's not a Member photo, that's just some darn Registered user "shov"ing that darn thing in there. Won a Blue Ribbon with it too!!! The nerve. :-P

Seriously. Members or Registered users are both going to put their fair share of cliched shots in challenges. Can't get around that, no matter how hard you try.

To sony: Actually the freedom of speech thing is to stop the United States government from impeding on your rights. Has nothing to do with this site. You are bound by both the terms of service here and the administrators will, both of which can restrict your "freedom" of speech.

And by many of your comments and forum posts I have to say that if anyones freedom of speech needs limited it's yours.

To everyone else: sonyalphauser does not represent the entire community of Sony DSLR photographers.

Here's the thing... I don't have a problem with the way the site is conducted... my problem is that all the members overedit their pics and submit the same thing(roz, Irene, and others), which I will give credit where credit is due, they are great pictures, and I'm sure they are nice people but they submit the same thing for every challenge and the other members vote their pictures up because they either know who the picture belongs to or they don't care and vote it up for the he'll of it...I just wanna see a challenge where there isn't a fly or water drop, or paper with light behind it on the front page and seeing those pictures receive scores in the high sevens...to be honest I think that the members should have separate challenges than the registered users and that members shouldn't be allowed to enter the open challenges...you are all obviously of a higher knowledge of editing than the rest of us and I don't need to be reminded of that everytime I open my browser and see the same names on the front page...I feel that the open challenges should be for people who haven't learned how to edit the he'll out of their pictures yet and then if you want to be shallow and sell your soul to ps, noise ninja, and neat image, then you can become a member

If you think processing didnt exist in the film days, you have lots to learn about photography. Instead of singling out memebers, Why dont you learn from them? Isnt that why youre here anyways? Learn and use what is free to you and if you like what you have learned and feel compelled to contribute to the site then join.

If not, then be content with what you can get for free. I mean after all it doesnt cost you anything, why be ask for more?

The difference between a Member and a Registered user is $25.

There are some Registered users here that can run circles around many Members. There are Registered users that used to be Members and don't have the time or desire to participate at higher levels that make it worth the $25 anymore...so they've let their membership lapse.

There are also Members here that just put that $25 out there right after joining and are either new now, or were new when they paid that $25 four or five years ago. Those new Members may or may not have more experience than the Registered users.

Really, how much experience can you say anyone has here? You can't just base it on their membership status or even how long they've been here.

In real life (outside of DPC, GASP!) people are photographers also. Some may have a lifetime of photography experience before they even get here.

Honestly, your concern over skill levels of Registered versus Member status is a bit misplaced IMO.

Now that's not very nice. Seriously, relax. Members pay their fees to be a part of everything the site has to offer. That's only fair, right? If you paid to be part of something, wouldn't you feel slighted if you were left out of any portion? I would, as would many of the members here. I agree that there are many, many, many, many, many themes that are overdone. But hey, they keep pulling high votes and strong finishes. How can you logically argue with that on a site that is based on photographic challenges? Step back a minute and take a deep breath. We're all here to have a good time.
