What happens when no-one votes? Pretty dejecting. I don't mind getting a low score, but not one vote is pretty sad.

I have voted on all the images, so this cannot be right!

Are you looking at the right place? From your profile this being your first challenge..

Votes Received: 59

Actually if you view it from your profile it will not show a score. You have to look at the DPC home page, Upper Left hand side under the thumbnail of your image. Your score will be there. ETA: well in this case yes you can check it from your profile because it is the first challenge you have entered, Your Average Score Received will be your score. But once you enter a second challenge you will only be able to get your image score from the home page. I didn't realise it was your first challenge. And was a bit too quick reading vikas's post.

This is cool. Just got a favorite and my score is creeping up. I haven't received favorites for awhile and I now received 3 in two days. The other two are in my free study.

My score is way better than I was expecting for this image. Just rolled up to a 6.5 I wasn't even really worried about the score on this image because my Free Study is bound to make my top five on my profile page. I was more interested to see if anyone got the hidden message in the title for the macro. Now it looks like I could posibly put two new images on my profile page... I am stoked. lol

The highest challenge score I have had in quite a while now. It feels good to see others enjoying the same view. :)

Don't sweat! My first entries at dpc was mid 4's. Now I'm a steady "submidfive". Just use the excuse I did: "I need a few challenges to get used to the different rules!" Welcome mate =)

BUT! By the looks of it; looks like good ol' BJ have ascended from the "submidfive"!

I am getting tried of people who vote 1's and 2's to

1. help their own score

or

2. because they do not like the subject of the photo

You are not helping anyone on DPC when you do this including yourself. If you feel that your score needs a boost, Take a better picture! If you do not like the subject of a photograph, Then dont vote on it! Giving low votes out of spite just flat out sucks and it makes people want to physically harm you. But you make that imposible because you cowards never leave comments with your 1's and 2's so those of us who play fair will never know who you are and we can't send Art to torch your asses.

Ah I feel better now.

I agree..especially with point number 1. There is no way that scoring others photos low will elevate your own score. That might work when there are 10 photos in competition, but based on shear numbers and statistics when you have 200 + people voting on each photo if has very little effect mathematically. People need to reward photos with an honest vote and learn from their time here at DPC. In time their own photos will become the high scorers and all it takes is a little patience and conscious effort.

Seriously, I do not get the voters on this site. What's wrong with them? It's clearly a macro, or at the very least the best damn macro I can do with a 50mm f1.8 lens. The composition isn't outstanding but there is no glare, everything is tack-sharp, the pp is not overdone, the artistic capture is pretty damn good. OK, so it's not a frickin water drop. SORRY!

*rant over*

I could never give a 1 to anybody because I figure just the trouble to enter a picture is worth more than that. Anything that I feel has any effort put into it at all gets a 4 or even a 5 from me.
And remember, average is 5.5, so even a 5 vote is below average.
I figure that the low voters have nothing entered and must also have nothing to say. I'm not sure why they're even allowed here (by that I mean that if they aren't contributing with anything constructive, why are they bothering).

Anyway - I'm pretty sure I've gotten plenty of ones and twos on my picture so far as I currently am ranked at a whopping 5.01. But this is one that I entered knowing that I like it and it's not DPC friendly so I can take it. Sort of.

I don't want to hijack this scoring thread or go off on a tangent here, but I need an answer to something while we are temporarily on the topic of voting and voters.

It seems to me...as much as I can remember that before I became a member and was a registered user my name would show up on the whose online board which of course it still does as a member. As for the 600, 800, 1000 + guests that are online at any given moment are they voting at all or are they just browsing for entertainment or in some cases I'm sure trying to lift images.

I guess it makes more sense that they are not voting otherwise we would have much higher vote counts and there wouldn't be such dead lulls in incoming votes at times.

Can someone clear this up for me? Thanks.

I don't think guests can vote, so I bet there's many just looking at some photos. I did before I became a member to get familiar with the site (took me half a day and then I was a full member). Whenever I am at work I go on DPC in my breaks, and it's not always I care to log in. That might be 10-15% of the guests. The others, god knows...

And Susan, sorry, but it's a bit funny that you, by the looks of it, stay still at 5.0000. I would rip my hair off had I done so.

Also a large number of people would have found specific DPC photography threads via google. Especially in the lead up to Christmas people are googling camera brands and opinions.
