Alright, so far I'm liking the transparent overlays on photos. But, since I can see some people don't like the idea of not being able to right-click "Save As" photos, maybe it should be an option to the person submitting the photo:

When someone uploads a photo to their portfolio, or submits their photo into a challenge, there is a drop down menu off to the side. Members will not be able to submit their photo unless they specify "Yes, I'd like a transparent overlay" or "No, do not add a transparent overlay"

People will have the option to put a transparent overlay on their photos, but they have to decide weather they do or not before they upload their photo instead of just going with the default.

Good idea???

I think if you place the images you want unprotected into your workshop the overlay is not applied.

I think this is the same response given by an SC member. It means having to go through a few extra steps, though, like resubmitting it as a part of your Workshop, having to fill out the different things like shutter, ISO, and aperture if you feel they're necessary, linking to it from your challenge image... too many steps. Why not satisfy all users and just make it a checkbox?

Also, do you have a workshop folder as a registered user?

ETA: Also, it would add more load to the servers and use up more bandwidth. Though I bet DPC has unlimited bandwidth, more used up bandwidth and less server space are never good ideas. Why go through all this when probably less than an hour of coding would resolve it without bogging down servers, annoying users, and convincing some (who otherwise would've opted to not have the overlay) to just "fuggedaboutit?"

And if registered users don't have workshop folders, they'd also miss out on ...their image being downloaded?? Is it a protection mechanism or a handicap to registered users?

You have to save images while they are still in the voting dates ... at this moment the transparent overlay don't work.

I'm a registered user because I'm broke and camera free now. Check out my profile and see if you can right-click save one of my images. I placed all my entries in my workshop while the discussion was ongoing. It only took a few clicks and all were in the workshop. I doubt this affects resources as the images probably only exist in one place. The other directory is probably just a pointer.

OHHHHH! Cool! But... that means putting all my challenge entries into the "workshop" folder. I'd rather have them ordered the same way I do now, in "year" folders and in chronological order. If we could change other folders to become like the Workshop folder (allow downloading of images), it'd make everything okay :).

Can the transparent overlays be imbued with the EXIF data from the photo? sometimes I like to peak at the sizes etc but the overlays come up with nothing.

You can create folders within your Workshop folder, like sub-directories, for your "year" folders.
