Give it a try, see what you know (and don't know). lol

I failed baaaaaad. Not surprising at all. The technicals make zero sense to me. I just shoot off of instict. I know for sure where the lights need to be to get me the shot I have in my head, but not why..stuff like that. My husband gets really mad at me because he knows what everything means and does and I have zero idea yet he feels that I can just pull out my camera and instantly take a professional looking shot(for the most part) and he feels he can't. I don't neccessarily agree.

86%

I messed up one of the f/stop calcs, the moon question, and the sun lighing question.

I guess I am happy with it...

Thanks for posting that, I barely passed with 85%. I should have taken my time on the equivalent exposures, I tried doing them in my head. 2/3 that I answered wrong were exposure calculations (B.T.W. I have a part time job teaching introductory photography courses, which covers equivalent exposures).

I failed too. I know very little about the technical aspects of photography. I know what looks right and usually how to get the effect I want but I can't explain it in terms of f-stop and stuff like that.

I suck

I got one f-stop/shutter speed calculations, one photographer, the "shooting mode" question, a dof question and an equipment question wrong.

86% too. I messed up on one of the photographers, an f-stop question, and the one about the automatic modes. I've got those modes on my cameras but have never used them. Ever!
11/02/2009 09:38:51 AM · #8
85% but I am not sure I agree with #17 (or care really, I mean scene modes are for beginners and the test claims it is for pros). I also just read a book on the moon landing, otherwise I'd have had to guess on that one.

yep, 86% here too.

I thought the moon question was funny (and of course missed it), then a couple about settings (its early, and I'm too used to 'counting up & down while changing settings')

nice little test though - thx cindi :)

71%. The F-stop calculations are the main thing that messed me up.
11/02/2009 10:11:45 AM · #11
Failed, did'nt know all the photog answers and quotes which are a bit arb and too hasty with the f/stop calcs. Anyway some useless info here:

Here's some more in depth info and a cool site to boot detailing Photographic Missions from Apollo 7 to 17

It wasn't until Apollo 15 that a Nikon was also taken along with the Hasselblad gear.

wow, I got 71%.

Much better than I expected.

Missed some of the f/stop calculations. Didn't know who made the camera for the moon landing. And didn't know that the thing you put between the sun and the subject was called a scrim.

Only missed one, and i think it has two correct answers:

*************

Q.14: f11 @ 8th ISO 100 =

A. f11 @ 15th ISO 50
B. f2.8 @ 15th ISO 400
C. f8 @ 15th ISO 100 (they say is correct answer)
D. f22 @ 1 sec ISO 100
E. f16 @ 4th ISO 100 (my answer)

*************

Now, f/8, f/11, f/16 is 3 stops. 1/15, 1/8, 1/4 is 3 stops. So f/8 @ 1/15, f/11 @ 1/8, and f/16 @ 1/4 are all identical exposures...

Therefore, i say *perfect score for me!*

Yeah, I counted that one as right on my sheet as there as it is not obvious that you were supposed to check all that apply. Only 4% on the people got it right, which means the question is very poor!

86%.
Also had Q14 wrong (like Bear) plus Q17 (never shoot in program mode) and Q21 (thought it was a Leica)

Leica was in the Mercury space capsule I think, Hasselblad made it to the moon. You got 14 right, it's a bad question, so up your percentage.

Probably confused Leica with Laika, the dog in the Sputnik mission :D

71% - I can see why asking some of those questions makes sense, but photography has changed a lot these days - I dont need to know changing my aperture and ISO will equal an increase in shutterspeed of X amount..

I just check the screen on the back of my camera. If it looks pretty then I got the settings right.

Job done!

True, for the most part. But I found that being able to calculate equivalent exposure numbers comes in handy when you are doing night photography and are dealing with shutter times in excess of 30 seconds.

That doesn't surprise me at all. Knowledge of the technical aspects of photography does not automatically make one a good photographer. There are lots of people that know all about the technical aspects of photography yet can't take a decent photo to save their lives. :)

was also mine answer.

I was quite happy with my 67% considering that I'm a hobbyist and have never studied photography formally, LOL.
11/02/2009 08:29:27 PM · #25
failed. 69% That's it! I give up photography! I'm a failure, and I'll never pick up my camera again!!! well... after the next challenge :P
