as I have discussed in a previous forum, I am going to be upgrading my camera. If anyone is interested in purchasing a sony f717, which is an awesome camera, I will gladly sell it to you for a mere $500 plus shipping. This camera is in good condion. No scratches on the lens, or bad pixels. Feel free to view my portfolio to see the pictures actually taken from THIS camera. I will include a 128m. memory stick, and a fm-50 battery. I will also throw in a usb memory stick reader.

Sounds like a great deal. I love my 717, and even if I had a DSLR I'd keep it around for low angle-shots (The tilt lens is awesome!).

Good luck selling!

Would you recommend the 717 to a relative "novice" when it comes to all the bells and whistles? Is it easy to figure out, or do you have to have an engineering degree to make sense out of which button to push? I want desperately to upgrade from my tiny little cam now, but I don't want to spend eons of time trying to figure out which button does what. Does that make sense? Patience, you see, is not really one of my virtues, I suppose. :o)

I got my Sony F717 this past Dec. I am a senior citizen and have had no trouble learning which button to push. I love it

Yes, I would (recommend it). It makes sense to me to get one of the best compacts ever made for a good price to start with, rather than upgrading via several cams to get to a point of satisfaction.

I would definately reccomend it (of course I am trying to sell it. lol) but seriously, when I bought my 717 I didn't know a darn thing. That is the beauty of the camera. It has a very good fully automatic feature that will take stunning pictures, but it can also be set to manual when you want to tweak the imaging. It is a very, very versitile camera, and I have loved taking pictures with it.

I think Laurie Black should buy this camera. She deserves it, she wants it, she can learn how to use it, she can stop whining about her present camera (j/k!), and drake needs to get it sold. Now make it so, you two!

Uh, OK...Boomer, you just send drake a money order for $500 and I'll send him my address... :o)

lol. If you are indeed interested, just email me at fstopopen@cox.net Laurie. This is the camera for you. Especially coming from another sony, you will be familiar with some of the sony-specific functions. I'll certainly take a money order, or paypal, or low monthly payments of $1 a month (after a $499 down payment) lol. My wife an I were looking for something to do for memorial day, so I could even hand deliver this beauty to you if you want.

I must say that from all I have read on this site and various others, it does sound like a great camera. I have to weigh a few other factors, however...
a) my children expect to eat occasionally
b) the electric company expects to be paid regularly and on time (darn them, anyway)
c) for some bizarre and unknown reason, Centex thinks that we should have to pay for the right to live in our home. Who knew?

Seriously, it is a great deal and if I come up with the cash in the next 24-48 hours, you're at the top of my list. :o)

cool. you just let me know. I'd love to sell it to someone on this site, just to see the images it is producing. like giving away a puppy, but still going back to the farm to visit.

the f717 is the coolest thing i ever owned. I knew nothing about photography getting into this camera, and now know how to use full manual in about any situation. its a good learning toy.

2 of my uncles had f717s (one swapped it for a SLR) One feature I really like is the manual focus ring (instead of just buttons to press)

Hey fstopopen,
I'm interested as well, have been contemplating getting a new camera for some time. Now seems like a great oppurtunity and a great deal, put me on the list!

TerryGee, are you just selling the camera body, or are their extras added in too. What price?

I'm still considering options, but right now fstopopen's camera would be a great deal.
