I predict a sunset shot will win. With lots of water. And cloudy skies. With a bit of Topaz. ;)

I was really excited to see the Triptych challenge listed today, But then when I realized it was under Basic Edit with the 640 px limit, I lost that excitment pretty fast,. Thought about it for a few seconds, Remembered I am in New Zealand and decided Corner of the World would be a more logical choice.

I looked at the previous challenges & the editing seemed to be more advanced. I feel that basic will really affect his challenge because I'm expecting a lot of landscapes that would be perfect hdr candidates.

Basic editing now allows the use of tone mapping and plug-ins like Topaz Adjust and Topaz detail as long as the editing does not "create an effect", so you have some leeway to make your landscapes pop...

This image used Topaz in basic editing...

Beautiful shot!!

So, you're saying that I can do a "psudo" hdr with one image (tonemapped through Photomatix) and then run through Topaz? Does the tonemapping on one image really make a difference since the info is either in that one shot or it's not?

I took some shots this morning & it was kind of dark still. I did three exposures (so I can play with HDR) so I will be able to capture the darks & lights. But with the middle shot, I lose the good details. In basic editing, can I create 3 different exposure shots out of my one shot & then combine in Photomatix (or will Photomatix automatically do that for me if I pull in the raw file)???

No, in basic editing you cannot do multiple-image merge, even if all 3 images are derived from the same exposure. But Photomatix can do pseudo-HDR from that single exposure and the results are usually (but not always) indistinguishable from taking the 3-out-of-1 approach, assuming the starting image is RAW. IN other words, tone map a RAW image for a pseudo-HDR.

Just be real careful you don't push it so far that the effect dominates the image, because then you may afoul of the basic rules. We have more leeway in advanced. The one I posted is a good example of enhancing without overdoing it.

Hello guys!

Im new on the site and find the concept super interesting !!! Just got a question for you ..

I wanted to submit a picture for this challenge and it was said I had to have taken the shot during the submission date. Is it like that for all the challenges ?? I was a bit surpised but I thought about it and it actually makes a lot of sense. The only problem will be to find the time to take the picture :s

Welcome Ureshii ! Yes, the rule the shot to be taken with in the schedule date/time is the big part of the Challenge. We do have one challenge every year called "Best of 200x" in this case where you can enter any shot taken with in the year of 2009. Good Luck & remember to have fun!

There's also the free study each month, for your best shot taken that month.

wow, I totally misinterpreted it.. the last thing I expected was to see landscapes in the previous challenges..I'm still boggled that my mind didn't even go there.. I thought perhaps mementos or cultural stuff would be dominant..

Why not a landscape? The mountains, desert, ocean, forest, river, etc would all be something that showed "your corner of the world".

They definitely meet the challenge.. It's just that I'm stunned that I was thick headed enough to not see more possibilities.. I kept looking at the human aspect...I've pulled out my image.. I'm pretty sure it would've been dnmced to death or something..
