| We are up to 94 on Saturday night, this one is going to be the biggest one yet. Probley wind up about 150 entries or so. |

lol... i'm gunning for a better finish in the transparent challenge... i have a photo that i'm happy with for 'meeting the challenge' this week :)

| I know I am gonna wind up 152 out of 157 pictures, the only ones under me are gonna be the naked guy and some other weird stuff. |

I've drove my family mad this week. Keep running off to the hobbie store, took over my sons bedroom and turned it into a studio, total chaos. I'm really happy with the image but struggled trying to get my lower end camera to focus properly. I've noticed that when working with transparencies , it struggles to find an acceptable focal point. I'd be interested to know if other lower end users have had the same problem i.e. "is it me or am I just a bad workman who blames his tools".

| Ah, I always have troubles getting my "low-end" camera to focus on marco stuff. Or it has difficulty with colors that are too close in contrast. But usually, I just probably need more practice or finally get myself to spend the large amount of money for those high-end cameras. Usually the bigger cameras cost more for a reason: quality! |

Some of the autofocus systems in "low end" cameras just can't focus through transparent objects. When I first picked up a digital camera I spent ages trying to get a Coolpix 990 (not _that_ low end!) to focus on a friend's snakes inside their glass tank. It just couldn't do it. The glass didn't have enough contrast for it to focus on the glass and it somehow blocked the focusing signal (infra red?) so it couldn't focus on the snakes. It just sat there hunting until I found the MF button.
Can you manual focus? Failing that, if you can focus lock then focus on something the same distance away, lock the focus (half press) , recompose and shoot - tricky if you're using a tripod!

| My camera doesn't manual focus or use focus lock (the button is either up or down, no in-between). I just let it do what it wants. It often hasn't worked, but I've submitted anyway because I'm not picky about sharpness/focus/exposure if a photo is interesting, an attitude I apply to other people's photos when I rate them as well as my own. I often like the rawness of the photos I get from my camera, and the way I can push them around in the gimp and get interesting effects. I kinda have this feeling that if/when I get a better camera I'm going to feel like my photos are too crisp and clear for a while! |

So after 3 days and about 150 initial shots, cropping and adjustments, I've come down to about 7! I just can't decide.
I agree, I think there will be a lot of submissions. I think this week's challenge was fun. It definately took some effort and imagination. 3 weeks ago, I would have never thought I'd be turning my living room upside down and into a studio! Oh what a mess, but it was cool - now it's time for clean up - so I can start all over again.

| Here's MY problem with the challenge and with the voting. It's not always completely obvious what is transparent, and I think that you can be on the topic in this one without being obvious. I'm not really sure that many people are gonna understand how I did my shot (which completely relied on a transparent object) or think it fits the challenge. I've also gone through the entries and found several where I can't see how it fits the topic. |
