We are not complaining, Judi drove an anti troll campaign, encouraging everyone to vote and vote high :) and It worked, every one is happy now, btw did you vote? :)

It's a tough one for me to vote one actually, because I obviously have my views about what I think a good HDR looks like, from the technical stand point of the technique, but there are a few where the actual application of the HDR is very good, but the photograph/subject is just so boring, or visa versa.

May be useful to leave some comments explaining the aspects of the shot that you do or don't care for and why.

When a photographer enters into a major industry competition...they are usually up against a couple of thousand images of all subjects. The judges sit there for a few days on end judging each of the images individually. One at a time on stage with other judges on the panel. They cannot allow a 'boring' subject cloud their vision of the technicalities of the image, nor the quality.

Overlook the content if you find it boring and judge on other areas of the image.

I feel a bit hypocritical leaving comments as my entry is absolutely crap, hah.

Well you could turn that on its head Judi and say that every one has to enter a HDR image of the exact same subject, and therefore we would only be voting on the technique its self.

When you start criticizing images, you'll learn how to criticize yours, which is an amazing skill if you got to develop it right :)
And btw if you don't like an image .. don't worry .. thats why there is low scoring numbers .. Shoot the &*(^Y)* :)

Then you will learn a lot by commenting on the other images. One or two may walk off grumbling "Who the heck does he THINK he is?!", but overall most members have a thick skin and appreciate the feedback.

Excellent point. If you look at some of my recent entries, you will see that I like to try and predict the critiques. I call it "DPC Bingo". Every time I get a comment that matches one of my predicted critiques, I fill a square on my virtual bingo card.

100 ....101 vote check-in (really didn't think it would reach a 6.0 compared to what it was at first):

Considering I only entered this challenge to see whether I wanted to buy an HDR program and didn't have an opportunity to get a photo I really liked, I'm quite pleased with this:

Hoped to do better than this but did move up from a 4.2 to 4.7 so hopefully I'll break the 5.0 mark but the end of voting, I'll be happy with that!

Well even after the recent spike in the voting and obvious increase in scores. My image managed to crawl up from a 5.2 to 5.3 which is still a far cry from the 6.0 I was hoping it would get. I guess it isn't HDR enough apart from one person who gave me a nice comment but said it was a non-traditional HDR photo. The problem with that is I have no idea what the difference is between traditional and non-traditional considering the HDR technique is not really all that old, at least not in the digital sense. For me it is about the process of bringing out the lights and darks of the image. Not the what I think can sometimes be excessive tonemapping. So now I am wondering if my HDR is ok and my photo just sucks, Bad Subject or Bad Comp or Bad something. Can't wait for this vote to be over so I can call myself out on this and beg for feedback. If anyone who has already voted would like to give me your oppinion PM me and I will give you the image number so you can have a closer look and give me your thoughts. If not thats ok I can try to wait til next week. But this one is bugging the hell out of me. I really like the photo but am thinking I maybe should have went with one of the other shots I had thought about entering. Odds are they may have been better for this challenge.

I just didn't want it to look like a digital painting. I give up on HDR, You can keep it. It is not about taking pictures anymore it is about who can munipulate their photo the best in a editing program.

Don't give up HDR, just give up on expecting others to like the natural HDR look.

After a full review and half way through voting, I see a lot of images that are processed way too much and not HDR but most likely Topaz or something similar - I never knew HDR would give you such extreme localized halos. The more 'natural' HDR shots look awesome though - a lot of good detailed, complex shots.
