Well...I am still in the 4's. Mine isn't oversaturated...(I actually reduced the saturation)....isn't noisy...is HDR...has impact...but it ain't good enough for DPC obviously.

Oh well....! The scores of late really are making me rethink whether I should still be here.

I don't think anyone should rethink that. After watching my extremely low score this morning, I wonder if I should rethink actually submitting some of these entries. I think the process of getting out there & taking pictures, playing around with editing, and most importantly, getting feedback prior to submitting it... this is what is valuable.

I don't think watching lousy scores getting even lousier is making me a better photographer. But all of those other things are.

(having said that, for the first time I asked to have my entry unsubmitted).

What is your score now?
09/14/2009 07:26:05 AM · #106
You know the real reason you hang around has nothing at all to do with scores. What you really enjoy is telling others to Bite You!!!! My score sucks for the amount of effort I put into this challenge. Not to mention the 200 bucks I spent to upgrade from CS2 to CS4 just so my Adobe can read Raw Files from my camera. It drives me crazy to have people say it is not an HDR photo however because it is HDR, Just not overprocessed to the likings of many of the voters.

What is your score now?

5.6 - not as bad as yours, but it is not a 5.6 shot as I am sure yours is not a 4s shot. We need to revolt against the crowd....you with me?

My one comment so far is along the lines that the subject matter isn't very interesting but the HDR work is okay. I have to agree about the subject matter - I really didn't have an opportunity to go out and shoot anything interesting for the challenge, but as I put a lot of time into trying out programs with a view to buying one, I felt I had to enter the challenge to see how my photo shapes up technically before wasting my money. I am just hoping for more comments on the technical side of things, but doubt I will get them. Guess I'll have to ask for comments in the forums next week.

To be honest Judi I do find it a little bit offensive when you talk about your scores dipping so you consider leaving.

That's the photograph you entered, if it scores low, then it's a low scoring photograph, why is that such a hard thing to accept?

You obviously produce some amazing photography, and the scoring has reflected this, but logically some of your work just isn't going to be as good as the rest.

Okay....so if you produced an image that you really love and know that it meets the challenge...would you be upset if it scored low???

What I wrote is my opinion. No one can tell me if that opinion is right or wrong...just as I cannot tell you that your opinion is wrong.

All my images have scored low but I wouldn't submit them if I didn't like them...

I just think it's a bit silly to throw the dummy out the pram and say you're going to leave just because some images scored low...

C'mon Judi, we all have an ocassional bomb, yourself with far less frequency than others. Besides, it's not unknown for you to post in the score thread about how poorly you are doing, and then appear with one of the ribbons after rollover.

After 484 challenges and 28 ribbons you would think that you got used to DPC and its voting variances. I respect your opinion Judi but your whining about a low score kind of berates you and I know that's not your intention. Leave the whining for the newbies who don't get how this site works and keep on producing what you want. Trying to please the DPC crowd is futile, making pretty pictures isn't and you've proved it to us all over and over.
