Well, I have moved to the Uk and are going to be here for a few years (Cambridge if anyone is a local). It's now got to the point of thinking...

Where should I travel too?

So...what are peoples must see and/or photograph, or do in Europe and the Uk?

Stories of places you have been, when to go etc etc........and if you have some great photos of the places, show them off too......I need to work out where to go for holidays and long weekends..

Look forward to hearing some great ideas

thanks, kaiser

Broad question- there is a lot to see, haha

I second Cinque Terre if you make it down to Italy...

Mont Saint-Michel and the Normandy coast is quite splendid, the Normandy beaches especially if you are a history buff. Close to UK.

Copenhagen is a amazing city, great for a weekend.

Paris is a short train ride from London, obviously a ton to do there.

Nice/Monaco/French Riviera is unreal amazing, I didn't take a whole lot of pics there but it is just an awesome place for many reasons.

Krakow in Poland is a beautiful city, Auschwitz is a hugely worthwhile day trip, so are the Tatra moutains...

Man this list can go on forever! Good luck and have fun!

Plenty to see in UK as others have said. London, of course. Bath is great and Cornwall is lovely. Stockholm and Prague are beautiful cities to visit and a trip across to Ireland is very recommended.

Richmond Park in London, that's where I'd go if I had the opportunity.

In Italy I would say Venice, Florence, Rome and the Cinque Terre are the places to be for photography. I have been to all of them and will likely go back. Just the history, the art and the people are so overwhelming. I woould include any of the hill towns of Tuscany in that group.

Also the Swiss Alps offer up some pretty spectacular scenery for photographers although I have been there since the 1970's.

I forgot Honfleur and will second Mont St Michel and pretty much anywhere on the Normandy coast.

Lugano, Switzerland is an absolutely gorgeous city to photograph. I'm definitely a little biased since I lived there for four years, but it's in the foot hills of the Alps, with some very distinct mountains protruding from the lake and plenty of gorgeous people strutting through the streets. The city is completely covered in flowers during the spring and has frequent outdoor concerts through the summer. In the winter, you might even see snow-covered palm trees.

Bellinzona, Locarno, Airolo (and the surrounding mountains), Valle Verzasca, and Valle Maggia are some other cool Switalian (Italian-speaking Swiss) places to check out. In the valleys ("Valle"), you can find traditional stone cottages and incredible landscapes, and in certain spots, even glaciers.

Other great places: Venice (architecture and Carnivale street photography), Ljubljana (check out Metelkova for great street photography), Trieste (for the waterfront), Florence (architecture), French Riviera (Cannes is awesome for street photography), Rome (architecture and street photography).

Some random stuff off the really obvious.....

London (I miss London) - Too many places to list... Do the corny monopoly tour (if you grew up with an American version might want to google the list) as it hits a lot of interesting stuff :-) British Museum, Wembely stadium (try and catch a football match if you can - prob not camera friendly now days don't know... best Indian food you will taste is up on the high street, so don't miss that) - they used to have a demo NFL game there in the spring if you are interested... The only gridiron game I ever attended and it's just wrong them on the stadium somehow :-) Globe and the south of the river are interesting if your not in commute mode (markets down near the Waterloo are interesting for photg if you get the right days), Camden mkts while we are on markets. Canal's & boats.... ok enough already....

Oxford - The museum there is just amazing

Greenwich - time centre of the world

York - walled city great cathedral

Kew Gardens - Some people like it, Meh

Bath - Roman stuff

Scottish highlands - I guess you can do the search for nessy if you must but the area is cool.

Edinburgh - Can you still climb the Scott monument?

Lakes district...

SouthHampton.... Winchester type of area is a nice area.

Sherwood Tree "Forrest"....

Hampton Court

Blackpool/Brighton - Yeah I know but they are both fun in that cheesy sort of way

Enjoy....

Thanks guys....I know it's an open question, but as I said, I have two years. Anyone else got any thoughts.....I notice Stonehenge has completely missed the recommendations. Even highlighting the main ones lets me know that they are worth it....and show off your pics of the places as well........

Stonehenge is a tourist trap and always packed.;o) Now if you could get in on one of the ceremonies that would be cool.

If you want to see standing stones go to the Ring of Brodgar on Orkney or the stone circles in the Outer Hebrides.

Go to Stonehenge, take a look and move on. I know the Wiltshire area really well and once you have been to Stonehenge, cos it is a tourist tick, head for Avebury, the largest Stone Circle in Europe, it is about twenty miles away. I will find some shots and post them, but Google Maps show it quite clearly.

Ely cathedral is quite close to you, it is amazing! as is Norfolk coast, which is IMHO some of the best of the UK, Stratford-upon-avon is a great place and have some amazing plays on by the royal Shakespeare company "a winters tale" is on at the moment, simply amazing!

But please enjoy your stay and it would be great to know where you've been.
