Looks like I come in at 1.7%. One ribbon and 2 HR's out of 169 entries. Good thing I have low standards or I might get a complex.

You experiment a lot and enter what you like. You have wild swings in your scores as a result. That's a good thing, believe it or not.

Mass appeal is a funny thing and impossible to predict for most of us.

Eh, I'm just teasing - you guys know that, right?

There are those for whom mass appeal is no challenge at all - they can do it at will, can do it often, and do it very well. I ain't one of 'em. The times I actually TRY for mass appeal are the times I tend to do really poorly, relatively speaking. I do have fun with what I enter. (I do invite everyone to read the notes for my Rule of Thirds entry when the challenge ends.)

I've had little time to shoot this month, hence this is my ONLY entry for the entire month of August; the fact this single entry is sub-5 seems entirely appropriate, given I've also retired from the military and celebrated my 50th, and still have no idea what I want to be when I grow up (or where I'll go).

Ok, Melethia, just because you're sub 5, doesn't mean you had to give me a 1 so that I was sub 5 too! :P

Yes, but it was an excuse to get on the soapbox, 'cuz my own entry isn't getting enough respect either.

I didn't know this. Congrats on finishing out your military career. I only made 13 years. So where you going? Staying in Germany or coming back to conus?

There was that whole "I have no idea what I want to be when I grow up (or where I'll go)" part - so I have no idea whether I'm staying in Germany or going back to the US. Of course, if I don't have a job by the time my actual retirement date rolls around (and the money stops) I will have to leave Germany.

And because this is a scores thread, I'm still delightfully sub-5 in that regard, thanks.

I find it odd that my Abstract Macro has been in voting for 3 day more than my Rule Of Thirds entry, yet has 12 fewer votes.

Going up a bit. An interesting and appreciated comment from briantammy. He gets it, even though he doesn't know why.

Me too, Deb. And I see quite a few that to my eye, do not meet the rules. I entered one that I adore so as usual, I enter what I like and the scores are a little above average. I was just excited that I was able to do it with basic editing, seeing as how I'm the Photoshop lover supreme. :)

It might be educational, if after this challenge is over, we explain in our notes how our entry fit the ROT, perhaps with a grid, or thirds boxes overlaid to illustrate the leading composition.

I second this, especially the idea of posting the image with a grid overlaid. That way it would be easier to see which part of a larger object actually fell on the grid which I find can make a big difference to how I respond to an image..
