Still a slow drop from a lot of 5's and 4's. I used to think voting was harsher in the member challenges, but I feel differently these days. (Except for the freestudies, those are still brutal on the voting.)
A good vote and a positive comment from a member with a very high average received and a low average given tells me I nailed this one.

Never easy to figure out. I try to decide whether it is a "soft" challenge or a hard "challenge". Topics like Red, Water, Appliances, etc are "hard" challenges. If it is not primarily red, contains water, or contains appliances then I deem it DMNC and score it accordingly. For "soft" challenges like Band Names, Drama, MJ Song Lyrics figuring out a DNMC is too much of a headahce and I just score it like a Free Study. This is what I do, everyone else is entitled to come up with there own standards.
As far as this challenge, I'd call it a "hard" challenge since the intention is to photograph using the Rule of Thirds. If the use of the Rule of Thirds is subtle/hidden/out-of-the-box/non-obvious then it meets the challenge less well than a strong/bold/obvious use of the rule. Just my two cents as this is a 8 year old discussion that can never be decided. |
Yeah I mean in my case my entry follows the rule regarding the majority of compositional elements, but the main subject is on one of the Vertical lines but not one of the Horizontal lines... so its not at an intersection, I think people erroneously believe the rule of 3rds applies only to the intersections of the lines... or maybe its a shabby pic! but i liked it a lot :( |
