Nicely surprised! I like this one a lot but wasn't sure how it would fare. Early days; it can still tank ;-)

Rising now - still hope it gets better. Think it should get 6 at least : )

I was at a pleasant 5.7 this morning until I clicked the update button to find that the last 3 voters think it sucks.

I think mine is, as well, and I've dropped to a 5.1x. I give up.

Dropping slowly from lots of 5's and a few 4's. Interesting that it went over well with the early voters this time.

my comments suggest that people are interpreting this 'rule' far too literally - it applies to negative space and other elements of the composition besides the main 'subject', c'mon people!

I expected this would happen with such a topic in an open challenge. It is a very appropriate topic, especially for beginners, but that also makes it open to narrow interpretation.

Never easy to figure out. I try to decide whether it is a "soft" challenge or a hard "challenge". Topics like Red, Water, Appliances, etc are "hard" challenges. If it is not primarily red, contains water, or contains appliances then I deem it DMNC and score it accordingly. For "soft" challenges like Band Names, Drama, MJ Song Lyrics figuring out a DNMC is too much of a headahce and I just score it like a Free Study. This is what I do, everyone else is entitled to come up with there own standards.

As far as this challenge, I'd call it a "hard" challenge since the intention is to photograph using the Rule of Thirds. If the use of the Rule of Thirds is subtle/hidden/out-of-the-box/non-obvious then it meets the challenge less well than a strong/bold/obvious use of the rule. Just my two cents as this is a 8 year old discussion that can never be decided.

After a 4 for vote number 1, have recovered nicely. Very happy at the moment :)
Time for bed and the inevitable overnight drop :(

Cool, a rise in the score since last night! Very surprised here at lunchtime.

I'm definitely getting hit by people who don't think I've followed the rule of thirds. Lots of 4s a number of 6s & 7s, but averaging low.

I guess what's difficult in situations like this is that you can't argue the point. I'm not going to get the chance to understand why the think this way, and they will go on being sadly misinformed as to the rule of thirds. Cause obviously I'm right and they're wrong :P

same i'm at 5.2051 but i'm pretty sure I my picture's in the rule of thirds, i even had a shallow DOF so that my subject pops out more making it more obvious. but no luck i guess..
