I think I'm going to make a rule of thirds template before I attempt to vote on this one

Yes I skimmed through it and thought no way am I voting in this one, but that template sounds like it could be a good idea,

Hope it raises - I like this one :)

ok so I just saw every entry without voting, but I think we definetely have to give low votes for those who didnt apply the rule of thirds, even if its a great photo, right?
08/26/2009 12:49:44 AM · #30
I don't think I've ever had a start as bad as this one. I believe it is a perfectly reasonable rule of thirds. I put what I wanted to emphasize there. Oh well.

I say that is how it should be for every challenge. Not just for this particular challenge.

After a 4 for vote number 1, have recovered nicely. Very happy at the moment :)
Time for bed and the inevitable overnight drop :(

As a Resgister member, you don't have the (in)famous update "button"/link. Your stats only gets updated at every 10min past the hour, e.g. 1:10, 2:10, etc.

The biggest problem is if people don't look carefully at the picture. You need to look at the intersections and see what's placed there. Don't just pick a subject and say it's not rule of thirds. That might not be the subject that they wanted to spotlight.

Not a bad start for me.

This is certainly going to be a challenge where there is disagreement over many shots. I promise if I don't immediately see a rule of thirds composition, to examine the entry more closely. Sometimes the rule can be used to lead the eye, not just to slap the subject on a set of crosshairs.

ah, you said it so much better than I did. I'm way too sleepy for this.

Yep. I'm gonna check what Woot is offering for the new day and then get to bed myself. Nite-nite, sleep tight, don't let the low voting trolls bite.

I'm sure they will! But now I'm ready for them. It's kind of nice to know up front that it's not going to be a good week. It's worse when you start high and drop like a rock.

I agree with Yo_spiff as well. Just looked at the previous Rule of thirds challenge results for the top 20-30 images and many fall into both (on the lines and leading the eye).

I SO don't understand the rule of thirds, apparently. I'll keep trying... :-)
08/26/2009 01:55:08 AM · #45
...and there it is, the bloody troll vote. Every challenge, about 2hrs in, i always get a 2 or 3 after a raft of 6's and 7's............. OK, OK, I know I can't complain, but somebody quite obviously just starts voting about now and drops low ones! I'm really all for bringing back that rule that made you comment ( or at least prompted you to comment ) on low scores................! Don't just do it, tell us why you think it deserves the score you give out you moron!

The sad thing about this is the image is a textbook ROT shot
08/26/2009 03:25:45 AM · #48
6.25 after 16 votes, which is at least 1.25 higher than it deserves.

I think we have an interesting situation here in that IMO quite a few of the entries don't actually comply with the rule of thirds.
However if the people who submitted them believe they do then it seems reasonable that they will vote based on their own idea
of rule of thirds in which case the entries that clearly do meet it may well get marked down as DNMC
