So I've got a blog, but I've done no advertising.. so I'm thinking my best bet is to start with business cards, but I honestly have no idea where to start. Where did everyone get theirs done? Did you get someone else to design them? And how much did you end up spending? (If you have pictures of them I'd love to see :) ) Thanks in advance!

I made my own, since I have a minor in graphic design, but I would suggest making your own, especially if you have the adobe software. Printing cost would only be like $100 for 500 business cards. You can usually find deals online in your a new user signing up for a printing website also. Also you could try posting on craigslist and see what designers prices are.

I did my own artwork using PS. Lot's of ideas out there. "Borrow" what you like.

Staples has a business card form. They even supply a template to lay out your cards. Once printed the cards snap apart with clean edges. I think it's 10 cards per page. (not sure)

I have several versions of my card, depending on who will get it.

Saves committing to large quantities, plus I can modify on the fly.

You also might consider www.vistaprint.com, especially if budget is tight.

VistPrint is the most economical for bulk (more than 100 cards at a time) production. If you are just starting out, you can make up a business card and print them 3-up on a regular 4x6 print and trim them out yourself (3 cuts). No need to pay for a long run, you can make needed changes easily, and you can print more than one version, plus it lets your potential customers see how your photos look on real photo paper.

This is the version I'm using now ...

Im kind of in the same boat, Im just going to try to design something myself and run them off on some nice card stock and cut them myself that way I can easily change them up if I like... and when run off on good paper and on a good ink jet its comparable to running them on a press...

If you want to print short runs on a laser or ink-jet then the micro-perfed card sheets from Avery (or the "house brand") are probably your best bet -- they are ten/sheet as previously mentioned.

Here's mine. I'm not a pro photographer so the card doesn't have an address or phone number. I just wanted the card so I could have something to hand out to friends and people I meet while I'm out shooting. It's worked out very well.

On advice from others here at DPC I had the cards printed at OvernightPrints.com. The price was right and I think they did a good job.

You might want to check out some of the previous threads on the subject. Here's a couple...

I'm undecided.. I may pick one of these, or get all 3 printed...

... the white outline around this one is the allowance for the bleed.. once printed it will only be the image and no outline..

On the two with out the info on the front, I'm having it printed on the back.. And, I'll use VistaPrints.. I've used them in the past and they are very easy to work with and their prices are extremely reasonable..

I would say maybe make the font a little bigger for the email address on the first card - adorable photo, btw! I don't feel like I get a true sense of your style of photography from the second card. Ditto on the third - it would be nice to see more of the photo. Hope this helps you decide if you haven't already. =)

I think Vistaprint is the best way to go. They have good prices and a decent turnaround time. But watch out not to use loads of blacks as they tend to turn out very dark brown unless you get them glossy, in which case there is not problem.

I'd advise against printing your own on regular photo paper, these look so cheap and so nasty it doesn't do you any favours with clients and makes you look... well, cheap and nasty.

I get mine done at Vistaprint and have an uploaded custom design that I can use on other materials too such as letterheads etc.
