I have come to the conclusion that my Sony Vaio's monitor clearly needs to be calibrated. However, I do not have the time (or desire) to figure out how to do this; it seems like a pain in the neck not to mention software (hardware?) that it seems I'll need to purchase.
Do you think I'll have any luck finding a computer tech guy that can do this for me? In other words, is it a common service that is available? I can certainly do research to find a dependable & recommended person/company in the area.
I'm really getting frustrated because I spend so much time editing my photos in CS4 (which I just got last week!) and then when I get to my office, the pictures look overprocessed and sometimes washed out. If it wasn't for the fact that my scores seem worse than expected most of the time, I would blame it on my office monitor. :o) |

Though I havn't calibrated my monitor yet, I think most who do would recommend that you purchase the hardware/software needed, as the ambient light temperature and brightness play a huge part in calibration. I may be wrong, but I think thats what the hardware does- measures the ambient light conditions and alters your monitor settings accordingly.

It may be your office screen that needs calibrated! Of course you would get best results if you did both.
ETA: And i just realised that you said that already, duh!

Look back through the forums for threads dealing with "Color Space". You may be using an Adobe color space, and the others may not.

| Also, calibration is not a 'do once and forget about it' activity. Monitors slowly go away from calibration and need to be calibrated every 2 - 4 weeks. |

These are not as good as using a real hardware calibration device, but these visual tools may get things in the ballpark for you.

If you have a company that services a color printer/copier at work for you, they may have the device needed to calibrate your monitor properly. The spectrometer I use to calibrate a printer also comes with software to calibrate a monitor as well. These are more expensive and accurate devices than the $150 consumer models. Even if they already service your printer on a contract, expect to pay for a service call for this. |
