My first proposed side challenge includes any and all art via your pen tablet. I just ordered mine and am very anxious to use it.

Here are my rules thus far: Post as few or as many drawings as you please. This challenge is not exclusive to the pen tablet. Scans of pen, ink, or charcoal drawings are also encouraged.

TCGuru
cynthiann
SDW
pixelpig
Mark-A
roz
rodfulk
Art Roflmao
Haze
sfalice
Pug-H
posthumous

I would like to start this on Sunday, June 21st and run through July.

Are you proposing any set number of images, or just any which take advantage of the editing capability of a tablet?

bump.

I was also thinking it might be fun to include scanned pen or charcoal drawings as well. It might be a good time to dig those shoe boxes out. Too much time on my hands lately.

What type of photo would "take advantage of the editing capability of a tablet"?

I rec'd one last Christmas and still haven't used it. This might be a good excuse to actually open the box it came in. :-)

I guess I should clarify that the emphasis would be on the pen. Here is an example of Scott's

Here is the thread that sparked the side challenge.

Oh is this the SC that has stemmed from TCGuru's thread?

If so please count me in :)

Yeah, I hope she doesn't mind. It's my first side challenge and the title is a little misleading.

You forgot to put me on the list ;-)

I'm so in!

Mine will all be more along the lines of SDW's instead of straight photo editing.

Like this:

But I'll probably do some more realistic looking ones too.

Oh my gosh! How do you find time to do this? Very cool stuff - but there's no way I'd have time (or patience probably) for this.

Have fun y'all! :-)

There's no minimum amount of entries is there? how about an ongoing permanent challenge? much like the lensbaby one, it would be great to allow more time on this sort of thing as it's so much more time consuming than pure photo editing.
06/17/2009 11:49:37 AM · #15
Once you do it a while, it gets much MUCH easier and you can go super fast.

I wouldn't think a minimum # of entries. I will probably only be able to do about 2 a week.

No minimum... and ongoing sounds good to me. I'm going to start getting used to it tonight and hopefully post at least a couple a week. I miss drawing. It used to be such a big part of my life, though I never was very good at it.

The main uses I find are in making fine-touch-ups/corrections (cloning), localized dodging/burning, and painting masks (selections) to affect a localized area.

hey cynthia ..
i used to do heaps of pen and ink drawings but havent for a long time .. it was as important to me then as my photography is to me now ..
i use a wacom ituos3 .. i dont even have a mouse .. !!
but i've been meaning to combine some of my pen and inks or other doodles with the photographs i've taken recently ...
this would be a great motivator .. so i'd like to join in ..
this is something i did from one of my pen and inks and photographs combined .. :)

I would like to play.I Would not be able to post every day.
In fact it might be that
I only do a few that I add to each day.
Will that be okay?

put me down for one or two a week for at least the first month. I have a pen tablet that has been plugged in, but not used on like two years.
06/17/2009 05:32:32 PM · #21
Well, this is turning into quite the little group :D

We are gonna have SO much fun!

ETA: Can I request, that when you upload your creation, you put what program you used to create it and the tools as well. Not going into detail with every step or any steps even, just giving an idea of what can be done with what.

THANKS!!

i'm thinking that anything i do, even if its only using a photograph as my base image involves my pen tablet ..
like i usually paint in masks and stuff .. would things i do from just photographs count in this group ..??. if not that's ok .. :)

this is another more abstract one ..
photos combined with an ordinary painting ..

I'm a little confused. Can the image be completely comprised of a drawing without the presents of a digital photograph. I ask because I don't have my camera at this time.
06/17/2009 07:51:12 PM · #24
I'm down.. I just ordered my wacom tablet yesterday.. should be here in a few days.. I can't wait to get it:o) I do quite a bit of pen and ink and charcoal/ pencil drawings.. I don't think I would be able to participate every day.. but definatly a few times throughout the month.

I plan to get to know my Bamboo by creating images from scratch, no photo. I do tech support on the phone for a living so I have hours & hours, 3 or 4 min. at a time, perfect for digital art. I have one creation where I forced Paint to work in layers...I'll post it after I get home tonight. I've spent many hours drawing with a mouse, so it'll be fun to draw w/a pen. Plus, I just ordered the iphone 3G S & I understand I can get a 'brushes app' that will let me draw--oooh! I very much look forward to seeing everyone's creations.

I used to teach computer literacy to adults & one of the exercises was to have them use Paint. I was always amazed & humbled at the artistic talent hidden in the most ordinary everyday people, who would start out by saying they can't draw. Waugh!
