Hi

I am looking to set-up a little friendly knockout cup competition as a side challenge.

This knockout competition will be based on your performance relative to your starting average.

Here are the rules:

In each match the person with the score that is highest relative to their starting average will go through. i.e. the person with the greatest positive (or lowest negative) difference between their score and their starting average will win.

The initial 'draw' will not be seeded in any way. I will use people's current average score (used backwards; i.e. 5.2567 becomes 76525) to make an initial number-ordered list, pairings will be made from top to bottom; subsequent rounds will cascade geometrically from this initial list.

I'll utilize a triple in any round where the numbers don't allow for just pairings. That way everybody who wants to play will be able to.

Any matches which are tied will be given to the person with the higher starting average. This seems fair to me, beating a higher average is more difficult.

A non-entry forfeits the match.

Where both competitors do not submit, the person with the highest current (not starting) average will go through by default. (not that there will be much difference - but this would favour those who have improved their average during the duration of the competition)

Any late DQs which emerge after the next round has been contested will be ignored.

You must have already completed a challenge to be eligible; this is so that you have a fixed average score at sign-up.

I will check all the scores as quickly as I am able and publish the results in this forum.

I will make an 'image trophy' to give to the winner. This will be annotated with the number of starting competitors.

If I have forgotten to make a rule for something then please let me know.

The first round will be the Duotones challenge, the second will be the Motion pan / Construction challenge. Subsequent Sunday and Tuesday challenges will be included until there is a winner. The number of rounds will depend on the number of initial competitors.

If you would like to join me in this knockout competition then please register your interest in this thread before 7pm (server time) on Saturday 13th June.

I look forward to seeing who will sign up.

You should challenge Judi. I hear she's a push over.

Given the latest results, the most current evidence would suggest otherwise!

I'll play. Based on latest results I'll be lucky to last very long, but what the heck. :-)

I'll play :)

Great, that's 3 then.

I think the minimum number to make this worth doing would be 8.

We'll see if we get any more interest - thanks for yours.

If I read your first post correctly, one has to be prepared to compete in both the Member's challenge and the Open challenge each week? Meaning that registered members can't compete? Seems to me it makes more sense to have it be one or the other, as not all paying members regularly compete in the open challenges, and of course registered members CAN'T compete in the Sunday challenges. Maybe I read your post wrong?

If this were set up for the Sunday (Member's) challenges, I'd climb on board. Not sure I want to commit to doing the opens every week though. Hell, I donno....

I agree with Bear Music. I'd like to play, too, but cant foresee being able to executed two challenge entries a week.. Heck, my average lately is closer to 2 per month.

2 per month, recently I have been closer to just managing to get a Free Study in (due to FSM committments). Like the concept, but would probably struggle at the moment. Also, I did note my scores went down considerably during the last olympics due to me ensuring I had something in each week
(and most were pretty ordinary)

Thanks for your feedback, I am pursuaded by your argument. I think that if we do this for just the one challenge per week it should be the Sunday member challenge, advanced editing offers a lot more scope.

Let's do that - Sunday challenges only.

Thanks

Alright, for Member's challenges only, I'll give it a whirl :-) I wouldn't be surprised if Penny stuck her toe in too, but I'll have to ask her.

Here is a final call for participants for the 'Better Than Your Average Cup'; a knockout competition where you win the match / round if you have scored more, relative to your average, than your competitor (full details in the first posting in this thread). N.B. This competition is running just over the Sunday Members' challenges now.

So far we have:

paulbtlw
glad2badad
cynthiann
dougi555
SoulMan1978
Budya
Bear_Music
Bauerfan71
Hot_Pixel
hajeka
basssman7
VitaminB

If you want to join in then please state your intention to do so before 7pm (server time) today.

Many thanks to those who have already shown an interest.
