So I have an editor interested in my photo. Well when I say interested I mean she said they are using my photo for the magazine. When she said that they will be using my photo, I was told to put together an invoice for $150.00. NOw this price wasn't negotiated...it was just quoted as what I need to invoice. I've already emailed her back to ask for a location and size of the photo to be used. It's my first publication...well scratch that, it's my third publication but Alamy didn't tell me where the other two were published.

So is this a reasonable price? In 2007 the magazine circulation was 1 million. What should the price be for 1/4 page, 1/2 page, full page, or cover?

Thank you

You can get an estimate for what it's worth from this calculator.

Yeah I checked it out and of course it's saying I'm getting short changed here. But I think $150 may be reasonable for the first sale. I didn't have to do any editing, the photo won't sell anywhere else (I almost didn't even include it when i sent it to her).

yeah do as leaf says or go to getty and do the same thing. i dont think 150 is a bad start to opening a relationship with a photo/magazine editor. if you make all 100% of that its a good deal and now you just need to keep giving them what they want.
