A few years ago, I created a rather large panoramic photo while I was deployed to Iraq. I've since had it printed and it measures 8.5 inches tall by 20 FEET long. My problem lies in how to display the damn thing. Cant just go out and get a frame at Wal Mart and having a custom frame built is financially out of the question. Would any of you happen to have any good Ideas as to how I can mount it? I've thought of cutting it into sections, but would rather keep it intact. I'm stuck...HELP!

Cutting it into sections might be cool if you actually have a 20' wall you can display it on. Finding any kind of material that you could back it with in 20' segments is going to be a huge challenge.

It seems to me cutting it into sections will kind of defeat the idea that it's been made into a panorama? I mean, might as well have been individual prints then? I donno....

You could hang it matted in a round room with an inside diameter of about 6 ft 6 inches and it would just fit. : )
The subject of the image and what kind of place that it will be displayed in has a lot to do with what you would want to use for the display. Glass that size would be tricky too, unless you use plexiglass and join it to make the long strip.

i just took this one into the store today to have printed , should be ready on tuesday. The weekend staff didn't know how to change the paper spool to the larger paper. it is 36,288 x 8322 pixels. will be 42 inches tall not sure how long it will be.

ref OP. its a very good question which I would love to hear the answer to. If I come across any good ideas ill be sure to pass them along to you.

Bear, I agree that cutting it would defeat the idea of a panoramic..The thought of using is as a boarder along the top portion of the room has crossed my mind or along the hallway at work. I didnt think about any of this when I created the photo....I just wanted to see if I could. By the way, its size is 16568 X 616. At the time I created it in Iraq, I only had a 4Mp point and shoot with me. Couldnt imagine doing it again with my current camera.

Bugzeye..loved the one you created. Its going to be a monster when printed. Good luck with it.

Build a Stand. Then the top part would have a circle frame on it. Imagine a giant lamp shade with a photo attached to it. to view it, you simply walk around it. =) That would take some work, and would probobly test your engineering skills=)

Or you could just use it like it was a wallpaper border and stick it on the wall around your room.

You could always build your own frame...if you have a table saw, some lots of wood glue and clamps. It's really is not too expensive to do that, just time consuming. Also there is this stuff called adhesive mounting rolls. You place that on the back of the photo then you can mount it what ever you want and it's archival.

Maybe do something like this in sections if required. Not sure what it costs. May be cost prohibitive as well...
