This seems to be the weakest results I've seen since being here. Of course, I am doing better than usual -- because I am really out of step? LOL! Anyway, it will be interesting to see how the old-timers here react.

I didn't even enter this one. In fact, I shouldn't even be on the computer. I have a major state exam this weekend! Eeek. Good luck with opposites Kylie and everyone else!!!

This is only the second challenge that I've entered. Challenges scare me. hehehe... good luck to you! (I notice, by the way, that you're from Sacramento! I'm originally from Davis.. move down to Southern California not too long ago, though)

Mine also, and this one was truly just a fun shot. I don't really care what happens to it scorewise, but I hope people leave comments :) I do so love those...

All the So Cal's seem to be popping up , but you could all be my daughters and you're scoring better! But that's great! At least we are afraid together! LOL

Was this the Fire & Ice Challenge or the Opposites Challenge? I realize Fire & Ice is an opposite, but is it just me, or are there, well, a LOT of these?

There are a couple that are done very well I thought, Fire and Ice that is

Hmm...voted on 156 so far, commetned on 9%.
saw 3 that are sooo out of focus. Not intentionally. Do we have new members that have no idea on what in -focus is? These pics baffle me as to why they were entered when, well, there is no polite way to say bad, is there?

Lots of fire and ice. lots more than i thought there would be of one concept in one challenge.

Some outstanding pictures though!

I am very disappointed with opposites. The majority of the entries are very 'snapshotty'. :P
Comon people, you can do better than this!

Like many of you have said, lots of out of focus. Some of the entries looks like thay have been captured with a cellphone-camera :)

No offense, the good picture just stick out more.

This is my first submission...

So far I have had

41 Votes

4.6136 Average

1 Comment, which is helpful... I was told a similar thing about the image by one of my friends. I suppose I know what to look for in shots to please that commentor... (Although I am mostly interested in those type of shots myself...)

I did not participate at the opposite challenge because I did not have a photo good enought to participate. I know when my picture is not good and I don't post it.

Why peoples don't do the same think, I saw a lots of very bad pictures in that challenge...

I agree. But then there are those that have admitted to posting a rules-violating pics (in past challenges) just for the comments! Some people's children!

I have no entry in opposites either..fair idea and not enough time to make an average photo of it. LOL

I’m doing about how I expected to in this challenge. The picture is really good but it doesn’t fit the challenge as well as many of the others so the score shows. It’s all for fun anyway right?

Just finished my first pass and vote and I thought there were some excellent photos in there, yeh there are a few poor ones but all in all I thought the standard was pretty good.

I don't know what the deal is but there must be some angry voters because I know my picture is atleast a 5, this is by far the worst challenge I've been in since being a member.
05/12/2004 11:38:51 AM · #19
Well, I'm hovering around a 5, sometimes a tad over, sometimes a tad under...I thought I had a good idea, but there are actually three of us with the same good idea this time. Oh well...I tried! :o)

I did notice that there were some really great shots, and some not-so-great, but mine, comparatively, is about average...which explains my 5 score, I suppose! LOL

5.04 for a pic I took 1 hour before the deadline. I`m happy! I like the pic...so I`ll take any score really! :-)

I'm glad I didn't enter this challenge. My great idea was Fire & Ice. :) I'm not saying it's a bad idea, just that a lot of people had the same idea. My other idea was Sweet & Sour, and I wasn't the only one that had that idea either.

Mike I hate to disagree with you but I see many snapshotty, out of focus and, I hate to say this, very poor photographs.I didn't enter cos I simply couldn't come up with anything original.
Credit to many of the ideas but the quality of many of the entries is poor.

I was disappointed in the entries for this challenge also. I'm trying so hard to be objective each time another fire and ice shot pops up. Out of 152 photos I've voted on so far, 15 were fire and ice and one was fire and water. They've had varying degrees of success and I'm forcing myself to look at each one as if I had never seen the shot before.

As for the quality of a great deal of entries. MAN! My kids and husband were looking at photos with me. There was a particulalry bad shot and my husband's reaction was, "That's nice. Did your mommy help you with that?" How do you comment on a shot that provokes that kind of reaction?

I'm sorry to say I have yet to see a stunner. Part of my disappointment is because I like my photo so much and worked pretty hard at it. It started out fairly strong (for me) at 6.7 but it is now holding at 5.67 with 68 votes. I'm wondering if folks are voting their 20 % just to get it over with and missing some of the better photos?

I'm pretty happy because I got 3 comments right away and that's pretty much what I'm looking for.

I have to correct myself. Something made me recall one of the better pics I saw and I went back and looked at those I'd voted on. I gave out 4 eights, and 10 sevens so there are some good photos folks. Keep looking. I've given 39 sixes actually and 54 fives, so I guess I'm voting pretty generously despite my boredom with a lot of the images. I'm trying to be as objective as I can and not letting my personal taste judge a photo below a five if it has a decent amount of merit, otherwise. The rest breaks down to 39 fours, five threes, and one two for a photo that just looked like a bad eBay shot.

With the exception of my own entry, which was flawless, technically perfect and with the always sought-after "pop" there were a lot of poor entries in this challenge. Moreso than other challenges, IMHO. Fire and Ice dominates by quantity, making it tough to vote on each of those. I wonder if Habit will produce a lot of coffee shots?
