Anyone have this lens?

//www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/554036-REG/Tokina_ATX116PRODXN_11_16mm_f_2_8_AT_X_116.html

Apparantly it knocks the socks off the Nikon 12-24 and Sigma 10-20 in reviews, but wondering if anyone here has it?

Looks like a few DPC'ers have it in both Nikon and Canon versions. I'm not one of them, but you can click on the link on the lens page to see who has one.

I was thinking of getting something a bit wider than my kit lens. Amazon is showing me a 12-24mm instead. The prices on that one look reasonable and affordable for me.

Theres an old thread comparing the Canon 10-22, Sigma 10-20, or Tokina 11-16 you might want to check out.

I hear it is really good but you may want to check out new 10-24 from Nikon.

Yeah I saw the Ken Rockwell article and he seems to love it. But I didn't know Nikon had a 10-24 coming out... this gonna be a DX lens also?

The Nikon 10-24 is indeed a DX lens. Keep it mind it's also f/3.5-4.5, while the Tokina 11-16 is a constant f/2.8.

For my (low-light) purposes, that keeps me only considering the Tokina, but obviously your application may be entirely different. I've been drooling over the 11-16 since it came out; if anyone is unhappy with theirs, I'll be happy to take it off your hands. ;)

Ha Charles. That being said, I can't find a Tokina 11-16 just yet... B&H is backordered.

Yup, from what I've seen it's very commonly backordered. You can either put your name on "a list" and get one when they come in, or try your luck on ebay, etc. I see a couple used ones for sale there now, as well as a few new (from Hong Kong.......). Unless anyone else knows any magic, it's just a matter of playing the waiting game.

I've got the Tokina lens. Pros and cons - Pros - feels solid, very sharp, nice and light. Cons - a little too much distortion at the edges - it almost might as well be a fisheye. I think I need to play with it some more, and process the pics I've taken, but so far I'm enjoying it.

How about if you zoom in just a touch and try 11.5mm? Does that address a lot of the distortion?

I really, really, really enjoy this lens. It's great for landscapes, and the F2.8 is, to my surprise, much more useful than I thought. It's nice for taking photos of groups of people indoors when the light is bad (like kids parties). The biggest drawback is the limited zoom range, but I find that I take most of my photos at 11 mm anyway, so it might as well have been a prime.

Photozone has a recent review of this lens.

Can't say that I've noticed the distortion particularly. Of course it has the normal "skewness" from such a wide angle rectilinear projection, but that's to be expected and is easily fixed if you want to.

Anyone wanting one, there are 3 left from Beach on Amazon here. $650 - can't find them anywhere and I just picked mine up woohoo!

for a zoom, the Tokina 10-17 can not be beat (which I own). It is fisheye to true wide angle.

For low light, the Tokina 11-16 is the ticket.

Just my 2 cents...
