I believe they are legal as long as they do not add another element. There have been images validated for using them in the past.....although I would refrain. I tried to get one prevalidated for slight texture...but for some stoopid reason it wasn't passed even though it had less than previously validated images belonging to other members.

That been said....you can do the same effect in camera.

They're not, but it is possible to create the appearance of one through other legal ways (dirty glass, etc).

Both photo's I've got in Challenges ( Mini and this ) just got a 1 within 2 minutes of each other.......!

So for this challenge I've had scores ranging from an 8 to a 1 and on the other from a 10 to a 1.....!

I give up!

I've noticed that they've underlined this in advanced editing rules:

combine captures of different scenes, move or change a feature between frames, or combine different captures to create a new scene.

but since this is not my native language and I'm not a photoshop expert I really won't understand that under this it means no texture layers allowed...I first heard about this rule through a comment, I didn't have a clue

I can't see how it can be legal, it's two different images merged together basically, thus creating a scene that did not originally exist... I've been bumped for similar in the past...
