Hey all, I haven't been on here forever, but I always know this is the first place to go when I need help with anything photo related!!!
Another one of my uncles just passed away on Sunday and some of the family were going through the things in the house and they found this photo. This is of my great-great grandpa. I've only spent a couple of hours in CS2 on it so far, so if anyone has some suggestions for me on how to make it look any better I'd greatly appreciate it!

Is that really a photo? It looks like it was drawn/painted on.

It looks like pencil strokes in the tie.

Yea, it's kind of both. I wish I could explain better, but I don't really know that kind of processing. I know my dad's senior pictures were done in a similar way, b&w photo w/colour added in later.

I think you did a great job already. Anything more might start to stray quite a bit from the original.

I increased the contrast using a slight s-curve.

Brightness/contrast to brighten a little.

Hue/Sat to decrease the sat of the cyan and blue and the yellow just a tad.

I am far from a professional at this and it was kinda weird working with a pseudo photo, but I'm REALLY bored.

There isn't much information there, but i tried getting a decent image in B&W and using it as a luminosity control.
or with minor tweak

Like Art said,

You did an awesome job, and there such a thing as going too far. I'd leave it like that.

Yes. At one stage painting over B&W photos with colour was the fashionable thing to do.
