At this point, it appears most people are still fairly new to HDR so I'm not sure if this will take off. However, I've been working in HDR imagery for the past several months and would like to share my methods and maybe learn a few things. I've been working primarily in single-image HDR generation which does not entail bracketing images w/the camera but rather bracketing a single image in Photoshop. I do however, use Photomatix to generate my HDR images. I've actually tried both methods of bracketing images and prefer the single-image method as it's more consistent and does not contain ghosting or misalignments as camera-bracketed images often do.

There are no rules for this thread, just post your HDR images with details or explanation as to what process you used to achieve the end result and feel free to comment on others' photos as they are posted. Hopefully, we will all learn some things and improve our work and maybe make a few friends along the way. So, have fun!

We'll see how this goes through May so post your images here and at the end of the month we'll decide if we want to add new guidelines for June to add some interest at which time I'll post a new thread for June images w/the new guidelines. Thanks to all for your participation!! Jo

Hey Folks,

Looking forward to getting some good discussions and work out of this. I have been finding that I am starting to use HDR more and more on multiple and single images. I am starting to get a handle on when it works and doesn't. I'll try and get a couple posted soon for discussion.

Count me in please. How long does this side challenge go on for?

Well, obviously I'm one of the more active HDR people in DPC, LOL... In principle I'm all in favor of this. BUT... There's currently a Topaz side challenge running, and there's a lot of overlap between the two, since Topaz is basically a high-end tone mapper, and tone mapping is an integral part of the HDR workflow, so... Would it make more sense to run this one NEXT month? Just askin'....

Let's try it for May and see how it goes. If people are still interested at the end of the month, we can always extend it and/or add some new guidelines to make it more interesting.

Robert, Topaz is definitely welcome here too although I am not a user I am always interested in the results achieved w/Topaz and I'm sure others will be too. But, this is primarily a HDR generation SC and that is what most people will be working with. Jo

I'm in as well. I've been doing HDR with 3 or more combined photos in Photomatix. I look forward to tips from those who know the ins and outs. I basically just experiment until I find something pleasing to look at.

It looks like we're off to a good start! I'll give it a little more time and then post a separate thread for uploading images, the link will be included in this thread so you'll all know where to go.

I just learned about HDR, and just made my first one (which I entered in the Free Study - but it isn't going very well). I would love to learn more and get involved. I may be in and out but I will work on an HDR as often as I can.

Great Idea for a SC! Thanks!

I’m in. I think HDR is a nice feature, but a lot of people are using it in a wrong way. So I think this thread is a good idea.

I would love to join this. I have been shooting HDR for over a year now and I think I am getting the hang of it.

hi everyone...i'm a bit newer to dpc site (just getting into challenges again). I've been experimenting with multiple exposures in processing hdr photos and use Photomatix as well. I find tonemapping can be a challenge with certain shots...and hope i will learn something new along the way. looking forward to this sc.

Sign me up. I don't do a huge amount of "real" HDR with multiple exposures, but I have been using a lot of photomatix to bring out more dynamic range.

For anyone that is also on Flickr, there is a group that ties in with this nicely. HDR from a single RAW group

I'm willing to join, on an HDR kick lately. Particularly interested in differences between single file HDR and multiple image mapping.

Down like a clown, Charlie Brown. Love to learn me some new tricks. I've had limited success with single image manipulation...of course, I've had no success at all with bracketed images!

Although this one came out sorta nice, for a bracketed shot....

edit: oops, sorry...will this be the thread for images?

just as a side note, are we looking for all types of HDR pics? even the 'artistic ones' like these?
