I took this picture at a car show, I cloned out the light poles, I was wanting to know if this was breaking photographic integrity. It makes the photo look much better, and I really couldn't have gotten a better shot there were either a sea of cars in any other direction or the poles that were sticking up everywhere. Really like the clouds and the poles gone just allows you to concentrate on the things that are important. Anyways tell me what yall think.

I have no problem with cloning out things that do not have a direct effect on the image. Also, you are shooting this for your own pleasure, not for journalistic purposes. Do what you want. Make the image as good as it can be.

My 2 cents.

I agree. If it were for some journalistic purpose, leave it as shot (shy of crop, levels, and whatnot), but if its for personal or art...go for it.

I wanted it in there. That's why I entitled it "Beauty and The Beast"

We don't have photographic integrity around here any more.
Very nice shot and you did a good job on the poles. There are a couple of spots on the pavement I'd clean up too.

I think that would be alright, although untrue. And thus would be disqualified from a challenge.
Is that correct thinking?

I hope we do. We just don't have a written definition all in one place which would allow you to get the same yes-or-no answer from everyone.

this "photographic integrity" seems to me more and more like a fairy tale like 'santa clause" or "easter bunny".. i mean it is something somebody came up with and everybody else kinda took it as it was told..
it is something people go bitter over it complaining ABOUT "the lack of it".. kinda like "UFO'S" "I WANNA BELIEVE"...

I think this would be legal in a member challenge.

If this came up as a shot recommended for DQ, I would vote "No DQ" for it with the poles cloned out, but I can't say that everyone would vote the same on Site Council.

This is a bit of a gray area, undoubtedly, as the new version of the rules prohibit the removal of "major elements" of a photo. A "major element" to one person may not be a major element to another. I would consider the poles *not* to be a major element, personally, and I wouldn't mind them being cloned out.

The truck would definitely be a different story, though.

If this were a purely photojournalistic photo, meant to be published as such, the poles would have to stay.

On Site Council, we simply do our best to use the best judgement in these cases, and majority rules.

See that's what I thought, the poles have nothing to do with the photo, and take away from what the main subjects are...the bike, truck, and I believe the clouds.

Title: Hot Wheels -- Poles can go

Title: World of Light = Skyline Blight -- Poles gotta stay

Personally, I agree with your assessment of this photo and editing decisions, but each of us, and every photo, is different ...

As long as you are not altering an image to tell a story that isn't there then I see no harm in removing distracting articles, like poles, which do not contribute. I think putting something into a photo would be a different story. If we view photography as an art then as artist's we may take liberties in order to express what we are trying to present or say.
