I think sometimes people put to much into things. Fauna is really - "animal, animate being, beast, brute, creature". If you really want to get technical about it it is also "an ancient Roman Goddess of fertility or chastity". Another definition by Dictionary.com is "the animals of any given area or epoch; as, the fauna of America; fossil fauna; recent fauna." It says to that its "a living organism characterized by voluntary movement [syn: animal]"

So to me it means anything alive that is not a plant.

How you doing basssman7?

hahahha. I think I would put fungus as something that is not characterized by voluntary movement so it would be flora. :=)

Doing rather better than it really deserves - still plenty of time for it to settle at a more appropriate score, though!

Not very well. :(

How is yours? Both my FS and my Fauna are grossly underperforming. However for me that is not unusual on the first day for some reason. The first 15 votes are usually good, then it tanks, and then slowly claws back over the week. That is how I am justifying it to myself at least. :)

Just went through the images, I wasn't expecting a zoo/wildlife challenge. When I think of flora/fauna, I think of native, or transplant, species to a given region. I was looking forward to the various species from around the world. Anyway, just one man's take on the topic and there are some great images in the Fauna challenge...glad I'm in Flora. Good luck!

I think Zoo shots are def legit for this challenge based on the description though I must say I'd prefer if the 'animal' challenges would be divided into Zoo vs. non-zoo images, because aside from outstanding images such as and others that in some way reference the fact that the animal is confined OR are extraordinarily creative, I'd prefer it if zoo images would not be compared alongside wild animal shots, b/c they're just apples & oranges.

Agree. It's not affecting my vote, just reset my expectation for the challenge!

It was a 6.7 this morning but now it was asked to be validated. Echhh.

My FS is in the mid 5s and is down to. I hate FS! hahaha.

Fungi are typically described as microflora. Gold star for limerick! :)
