Last Sunday I went to DC to shoot at the new World War II Memorial on the mall. The official dedication ceremonies aren't until Memorial Day weekend at the end of this month but the weather was nice enough to bring out crowds of camera bearing visitors. The sun kept going behind clouds so I gave up and set WB to auto and left the polarizer on. Here are a few of my better shots.

Comments and criticisms welcome.

Do you live in the DC area?

I think your photos are just fine. They look great.

I think the WW2 memorial is way overdo, and should have been done no doubt. They deseve it.

But I am not sure if I like it, it just does not have the same impact on me as some of the other memorials. Is it because I am not used to it, and its new and different...I dont know.

And its not just your photos coolhar, I have been watching this pretty close, and really have never been real fond of the design.

Setz-- I live near Baltimore, but the mall is only about a 45 min drive when the traffic is light. Having many friends and relatives in DC gets me down there a couple of times a week, it's my second city, lol.

Riggs-- I'm witholding judgement on the WW II. At this point I'll only say that it's not nearly as bad as it's harshest critics predicted. The people made a bigger impression, very interesting to observe. A full range from youngsters at play seeming oblivious to the event being commemorated to weary tourists cooling their feet in the pools, a troop of Boy Scouts in uniform, and old men sitting silently, deep in thought.

Are you gonna be in the area during june 9-13? I'm gonna visit DC for a few days for the sole purpose of wandering around to shoot photos.

You live in Baltimore? Have you ever been to Fort McHenry?

The memorial already looks like a popular locale for tourists. Nice to see.

setz- I just sent you a PM.

blemt- I've been to McHenry many times but haven't posted any photos from there. Closest would be my Orange entry which I spotted on my way to McHenry.

So is it a good place to shoot? Any suggestions on things to look for?
