Hi All,
I'm looking into a package being sold locally by someone who is looking to completely upgrade what they're doing. All gear seems to be in pretty good working order and well taken care of.
Package is as follows:
Canon 40D with the 28-135IS kit lens
50-500 Sigma Lens
Vertical Battery Grip
UV Filters for everything,
580EX Flash
LowePro Nature Trekker AW II
Also misc rechargeable batteries, flash cards and other associated gear
This comes to a total asking price of $2000.

This guy also wants to sell his backround setup, which has
3 muslin cloths
a 9ft frame to hold them up
2 Britek 2000 Lights/Flashes
2 Receivers
1 Transmitter
2 Halo Diffusers
Associated stands to go with everything.
This was a total asking price of $1000.

What I'm asking here, is this a good deal for this used kit? I shoot weddings and portraits, and this is what the stuff has been used for. Anyone have any ideas for what I should offer if this doesn't seem right? I did some looking on Amazon, but would like other opinions.
Thanks!

The B&H new price for the camera + lens, the bigma, and the flash is around $2,600. The rest of that stuff, of course, adds value. So it may be an OK deal, for sure. But not stunningly good unless you need/want that other stuff. For example, I have no need nor desire for the battery grip myself, it would be worth squadoosh to me...

lol... squadoosh...

Thank you for your quick response! We're kind of looking at the same thing.. the lights and backdrops are not all that important at this point, but would be nice. The other stuff.. is also great. We got a battery grip for the 40D we have now, and love it. The part we're deciding over, is that he'd like to sell the entire camera package as one deal. So we're debating.. But thanks again for the response!

Buy one (or both) of the packages, take what you want to keep, and "eBay" the remaining item to recoup some of your cost.

I'd say the first one is a pretty good deal. I can't comment on the second because I'm not aware of prices for the goods, but the first is certainly worthwhile if the equipment is in good condition. As far as how much you'll use it.... the Bigma and backpack (I've been on the fence about getting this pack myself) lend themselves well to wildlife, which I enjoy, but they might not be useful for you. I agree with AperturePriority, splitting up unwanted items on E-bay will pay better anyway than selling as a kit.

As you already appear to have a 40D and a 28-135, what part of this deal exactly are you interested in ?

The things you appear to be missing are a flash, the Bigma, and the battery grip . . and $2k is probably a lot for those bits just.

As you say, I have the kit with 40d and lens, but looking for a second. We used to have an XTi, but boyfriend sold it to someone as we weren't having much business and the guy was offering a good deal. Now business is picking up again, so we're looking around. So to answer the question, we're pretty much looking for the entire kit. Neither of us has an experience in the lights and backdrops department, but they'd be nice to learn with. Thanks all!
