Ignore the other thread, I needed to change the name.

The voting on the abstract motion challenge is the strangest I've seen (though I haven't been here long.) Within the first 6 votes, I got: 5,8,9,6,1,2. No one can decide whether their photos are too abstract or not abstract enough, so we need your help!

I hereby challenge everyone to comment on all entries. Commenting on 100% in this challenge will get you, not only Judi's treasured 100% award, but a special, one time only, abstract 100% award!

anyone up for it?

The Abstract commentors so far:
vawendy
Limerick
fotofan
adamsw216
k10Dguy
WriteHeart
PennyStreet
bcenu

ETA: Im not gonna lie tho. This is going to drain me more then the 1000th challenge so the graphic better be pretty and have sparkles! :=@

Stats: You have rated 227 of 227 images (100%) in this challenge.

I have to go back and comment later, so anyway I'm in.

Wow, vawendy & limerick, anyone else who joins! This has to be the last challenge I would ever sign up to comment 100% on - you're very brave (and much appreciated)!

My hands are still sore from the Hidden Gem challenge. I can't promise to comment on all, but I will try to do at least 50. I dont need a ribbon, but I am curious as to how abstract you will make it :)

I'm down! After commenting on all the images in the 1,000th challenge... this will be cake.

You know, I just gave the entries a once over, and I think I will do my best but I can't promise anything, haha... whew... this is quite the challenge.

Ooooo great! I finally found someone who got one of my comments! hahah

I'm in.

I've started already, but only have time for a few a day, so we'll see how far I get. The weekend should be better.

I've commented on 12 so far.

Disclaimer: I'm not going to be artificially glowing in my commenting. I have pretty strong opinions on this subject ;)

That's what we want from the comments (or, at least I do)! This is not a "I want good comments" challenge. This is strictly "I want to understand why you gave me that vote" challenge. Artificially glowing comments will not help us in the slightest!

argh! Can I opt out of my own comment challenge? No? drat!

I just started looking at the photos, and already I don't care for the first two. I'll try to say it nicely, but it's hard to say "it's really not an abstract" or "yea, it's abstract, but there's nothing likable about it...."

I am going to try to make a sparkly award for this--you all deserve it! (and yes, I'll do 100%... *sniff*)

Add me, I will try. I have already voted 100% and I am determined to get a 100% comment on something after the 1000 challenge beat my butt.

OK. I'll try. (do I get credit for that?) Penny Street

I too have a very strong idea of the topic and so far am finding many images that, to me, are not abstract.
This makes commenting difficult.

Count me in. My fingers have just got back to normal after the 1000th Challenge!

All right!! We added three more. Anyone else up for the challenge?

I'm new to town, and have no idea how to do most of the scoring/comments things that are available I'm sure. I totally botched this challenge, as I had a decent abstract photo to enter, but decided not to because I really couldn't decide how abstract my abstract should be. I've wanted to put a comment on the description page basically apologizing for not meeting the challenge criteria, but can't figure out how to put comments in after the challenge has started. Anyway, sorry I didn't really meet the spirit of the challenge. I've learned quite a bit from this one!

Don't worry about it! Some people are thinking they're not doing well because their photos are too abstract, some because their photos aren't abstract enough! That's why I'm challenging people to comment. I had three options: kinda abstract, middle of the road, and very abstract. I went with the very, but I'm still thinking that the middle of the road might have had better mass appeal. I'm planning on starting a forum after the challenge is over to discuss the merits of outtakes vs entries. It seems like a lot of people are wondering what they should have entered--and I think the discussion could be fun!

Edited to add: I haven't found a way of editing the description during the challenge, either. (But I've only been around since January) You can change it after the contest is over, though!

Great idea! I'd love to participate in that. How did you see what the scores are that you have received so far? I'm referring to the opening post in this thread. Thanks for the support. I felt like a bit of a doofus when I voted on the challenge and all the really amazing abstracts in there.

Don't feel like a doofus! The key is to try, succeed and learn, or try, fail and learn! I had never done an abstract before, and I had a blast trying. I'm so glad I picked it instead of language--I learned so much in the doing, and I'm appreciating the abstracts so much more because of it. (I've never been much of an abstract person...)

As to knowing the scores, someone has created a spreadsheet in which you can put the current average, and it can tell you the score range. The only way you know individual scores, is when you're so addicted that you stay up until midnight and watch the votes come in one by one and enter them into the spreadsheet. I've got to run now, but I'll try to track down the spreadsheet link for you.

Anyone else know the link off the top of your head?

Count me in, I'm half way now on both, voting and commenting. Still have four days so that shouldn't be a problem.

Hope I haven't stepped on anybody's toes here. If so I apologise.
I've found a good definition of abstract which I use to explain to some why their photo isn't abstract.
I see a lot of beautiful abstact motions, but also a lot where there's motion, but no abstract and a few which are stopped motions. And then there's the composition, which I think is very important too, at least to me.

Sometimes though I find it hard to bring into words why a photo doesn't appeal to me and because they all have done their very best, I won't give 1's and 2's.
