Thanks for the heads up. The new flash looks quite nice , would be handy for taking along to family parties or school plays etc where sometimes one doesn't want the big ole 580EX strapped to the top.. Would be a great little addition for my 5D that has no built in flash.

Why didnt they announce this at PMA this year? hmmmmmmmmm?

Now if it had a built-in off-camera lighting system it might compete with the D90 :) Seriously though they've packed a lot into a little camera at a price point lower than the D90, looks good.

For me, it doesn't seem all that great of an upgrade. I would never use the video and definitely don't need more megapixels but I bet the high ISO performance is great since they are allowing a boost of 3200.

Say hello to my new backup camera :)

Looks good. I like the increased ISO, but maybe the best thing will be if this pushes the price of the XSI down a little. I'm probably still a year or two from replacing my XT however.

WTF!?!?!?

Would it be a downgrade to replace my 40D with one? I love having a built-in video option. I love shooting short videos and the option of different lenses for videos would be a real kick for me.

don't think it would be a downgrade really, but keep in mind the video doesn't work the same as the video on a point and shoot (atleast, assuming its the same as my 5D mark II). it doesn't have continuous autofocus, instead relying on your manual focusing, or a very slow AF-button activated focus that changes the exposure of the video.
also the one thing that people miss when comparing the xxD line to the xxxD line is the build material and quality. your 40D can probably take a lot more beating than any rebel.

Yea I saw that after I posted. It does look like a 50D in a smaller body with a slower fps that is depending on the ISO performance.

Oh, SNAP!

Done & done. How long until May 11th? Watch for my XSi sale, coming soon thereafter!

It looks good, and the included software has the ability to pull individual pictures from the video. If your just shooting for the web and can stand the auto-focus issues you can shoot 30 frames a second :-)

If it is great at high ISO then I'm going to try and get one by the end of the year.

The 50D @ ISO 12800 looks pretty bad IMO. Since you'd be shooting at 15 MP, it might be serviceable at a reduced print size. Personally, I'd be happy if this new camera produces a decent image at 3200 that Neat Image can handle on one pass.

i agree. even the 5D-II is barely usable at 12,800. however, it is nice to know that its there if you need it. has helped me get some otherwise impossible candids.

I'd like to see it in the 800-1600 range

"The grain is slightly more evident at ISO 800, but detail remains strong. At ISO 1,600, we begin to see some minor detail loss as noise reduction blurs subtly contrasting detail, however results are still quite good."

if you want video or are on a budget, 500D
if you want something that's built a bit more solid, 50D
