Just wanted to share some images from a recent trip to Costa Rica.

Costa Rica is a great, but challenging, place to photograph. Very harsh light most of the day. Very short golden hours with low lying clouds that often meant the best light was blocked. Furthermore, the humidity in the rainforest was beyond any of that I had experienced before, including in the Amazon. My camera died, my phone died, and my laptop died despite keeping them all out of the rain for the most part. Fortunately they all came back to life once out of the rainforest and back down in the lowland zones.
The region I visited was Guanacaste. I flew to Liberia, rented a 4WD (essential as the roads were generally rocks rather than tarmac) and drove to Arenal, Montezuma, Nosara, Tamarindo and Santa Elena.
It's an easy place to get around. Very helpful if you speak Spanish as there are very few signposts out of the main areas. We got lost regularly and that became half the fun of the journey. Montezuma was the highlight.
Next time I'll go to Reserva Manuel Antonio as many of the other tourists there said that it offered the highest probability of wildlife encounters. Shame it was just out of driving distance from where we planned given the time we had. But that just gives me an excuse to go back!
I hope you enjoy the photos.

Great shots Sam. I am making my first trip to Costa Rica in about 2 weeks...but you have set a high bar! Thanks for the portfolio.

I spent a few minutes looking though your website, and one day I hope to be as skilled as you.

I'm jealous; I wish I could travel as much as you too :).

Edit for spelling.

There are 33 DPC'ers from Costa Rica. You may want to see if you can meet one or more while you are there. With a local DPC'er, you may get to find some places to photograph that you would not otherwise know to look.
Thanks for sharing the photos Sam.

You have some amazing captures, Sam. Congratulations and I'm glad you had a great time here in CR.

Tom, if you need any assistance just let me know, I'd be glad to help. The same goes to any DPC'er that comes this way.

Thank you for all your comments everyone!
Next time I'll certainly look up the DPCers.
