My real name...Mike Smith...is shared by over 10,000 others in the USA. It's very hard to be at all distinctive by such a common name. So I have an alter ego: Farnsworth Felton Newberry, completely made up, and reflective of southern aristocracy, or at least pretension to such. FarFel is his name to his friends.

Nickname has been kaiser for many years, and is easier than trying to get people to pronouce my name properly (No, its not Jai, or Ty, or Kyle.......)

Someone else had kaiser (registered, but probably never back. No entries, no posts, no nothing) and a few people dubbed me kaiser chief after a band named here.........so that was it....

If they free up kaiser, then I would get them to swap me to that.........

I don't know. I'm not even very fond of dogs, especially small, ugly yappy ones. ;-)

I always liked the name Hawkeye from M*A*S*H and when online gaming started up, I took that name to play Quake. But people kept asking about joining their "clan" of online players and I didn't have the time to commit to a game, so I added Lonewolf to indicate that... it just stuck.

Semper is latin for "Always". Marine is self explanatory. I just recently retired after twenty years in the Marines, but I will always be a Marine. Hence the name sempermarine.

Funny thing is, "Hawkeye" was Natty Bumppo's nickname in "Last of the Mohicans", which is where the creators of M*A*S*H got it from...

One of the great characters of American Literature.

And of course the Marines' slogan is Semper Fidelis, "always faithful", right?

My uncle was a Marine, WWII vet, real hardcore :-) Never married, strict as hell. I remember when he came over to Europe where we lived and accompanied my Mom and us kids on a 3-week road trip through Spain. He'd take us into the showers and make sure we washed up the right way. Every new pensione we lodged in, first order of business was to rehearse an escape route in case of fire. He wanted to go to the top of the bell tower in every cathedral we came across, and dragged me along with him on every single ascent. It was a heck of a trip. I loved my Uncle.

Semper Fi!

I wish I had a cool story to go with my name. Germaine was the first name that popped into my head when I signed up.

Mine is the first two letters of my first and last name. I thought it would be nice to sign my stuff that way--not that I've had to sign much.

My cousin was a marine during the VietNam war. Today he is 59 years old. His saying is:

Not as lean
Not as mean
But still a Marine

I wanted a user name that nobody else has and that represents something about me.

My maternal family is from Alabama - where they drink a lot of mint juleps, right?

And I have red hair. That translates into redjulep.

Here's the definition of 'julep':

Main Entry:
juĀ·lep
Function:
noun
Etymology:
Middle English, from Middle French, from Arabic julab, from Persian gulab, from gul rose + ab water
Date:
14th century

1 : a drink consisting of sweet syrup, flavoring, and water 2 : a drink consisting of a liquor (as bourbon or brandy) and sugar poured over crushed ice and garnished with mint

So you see - I'm red rose water - ha!
