This subject may have been done before but I have not seen it. I find it fascinating why people choose the user names that they do. Many times there is an interesting story or insight into that person.

Mine is not so much interesting as it is just a tidbit of info - Avalanche because, even as un-pc as it is, I drive one and LOVE it(actually the second I have owned). At least my commute is only 3 miles. The 1030 is a number significant to me (could be a birthday, last 4 of soc, last 4 of a phone number)

If you wish to share....why did you choose your user name?

Because I am. :)

Errr...because that is my name!!!

The word "Trollman" in Norwegian actually means "wizard" and has nothing at all to do with a Troll. But since Trolls are often mentioned on DPC I capitalized the M in Man to make it a double-entendre.

There ya have it! :)

I was originally hotshot7, the 'hotshot' part being my horse's name and 7 being a lucky number. But I certainly wasn't a hotshot by any means back then!

So I changed it to snaffles, because a snaffle is a kind of bit used in horse's mouths as a form of control. I have a bit collection because I am a horse trainer and may need to choose from an assortment to suit a client's horse. Thus snaffles as opposed to snaffle.

I knew that, hehe. Was nice find that there were more active Norwegians here.

BJ is my initials, and Amy comes from my mmorpg name Amoreth. People ended up calling me Amy, which is nice because I look like an Amy... If you remove the beard... Good thread!

yakatme:

Evolved from one of my favorite sports...kayaking.

yak = talk

I figured that yakatme plays well with communicating in forums like dpchallenge and it has also been my email address for over ten years.

yakatme@bellsouth.net sort of speaks for itself

A ratio that is an electrical engineering measurement, also used in other fields, defined as the ratio of a signal power to the noise power corrupting the signal. In less technical terms, signal-to-noise ratio compares the level of a desired signal to the level of background noise. The higher the ratio, the less obtrusive the background noise is.

That, plus it is an excellent song by Peter Gabriel accompanied by the late Nusrat Fatah Ali Khan

And Judi is diminutive of Judith which was also the name of the main character of the Apocryphal Book of Judith who kills Holofernes by beheading him in his sleep.

Ouch! I now understand the true meaning behind your last profile pic. :P

Jessie is my name, and there's already a jessie, and I'm known as Jess-i (pronounced jess-eye) in my dorm because there's another girl named Jesse, and it gets confusing....lol. So I just went with Jessi. It's my name on facebook too.

Back in college, I captained an intramural soccer team. When asked to provide a team name, I tried to use "BYE", just to cause confusion on the schedule. They wouldn't allow that, so I used "Nobody" instead. It still got a few laughs, but all the other teams did show up for their matches. I've kept it as my moniker for the last 25 years.

Is the name I use when collaborating with other people on their music or writing my own. Plus, my own sound/taste fits it well and lastly - I suck at making up screen names (as you can tell). ;-p

What - you're called Judi as well ?

I've heard of Dame Judi Dench - I guess Dain Judi McGowan could be a dyslexic version of the film star

:- )

Oldie but goodie

It's always fun to see how people have come up with 'usernames'. Some have really deep meaning while others are just taken for fun.
