I didn't vote for Obama but I don't really have a problem with him being in office. I understand that he wants to be a good President and he wants to do the right thing, I know he has the best interests in mind but MY GOD is it just me or is this guy just running his mouth to waste TV time or what???

Seriously his first answer he gave was over 7 minutes long.

JUST ANSWER THE F-ING QUESTION AND GO ON TO THE NEXT.

So, Joe... how do you really feel about it? *grin*

I'm playing on the internet until he stops talking. :)

I'm just having a really hard time following what he is saying because he is getting so far off track from the questions I am forgetting that the hell he's talking about.

What an amazing new world. A President who can speak in full sentences and form thoughts on his own, not just stumble through a script his handlers wrote.

Hey Delin,

He uses a tele prompter to read a speech written by a speechwriter!
02/09/2009 08:59:10 PM · #7
check your facts - he writes his own speeches for the most part

So, which show of yours is he pre-empting?

Let's face it, were not used to a President that actually tells us what he's doing!! What a concept!

I know, it's hard to believe we have a president that can actually think! We've been missing that for 8 long years.

Yeah, better that he just blurt out the first nonsense that springs forth, rather than actually pausing to gather his thoughts and articulate them clearly :)

yeh, somehow i doubt we're going to develope Obama-isms over the next 4 years, unlike another certain president. i love his speaking, although he does get a bit long winded

JUST ANSWER THE F-ING QUESTION AND GO ON TO THE NEXT.

He took the scenic route on every question. After about 30 seconds of his 10 minute rambling on just about every [very easy] question, I found myself yawning 9:30 seconds. He only took 13 questions from a list in which he called from.

Breakdown:
Opening statement 10 minutes.
1st question over 7 minute answer.
Next 12 questions average 4 minutes each.
Pick the reporter from a list.
Softball questions asked by the reporters.

Obama Pros: Used a press conference to deliver a speech. This will benefit him.

Obama Cons: Using the "Create or retain 4-Million jobs". I think he set a high bar. He should of said 2-million jobs, that way if more are created or retained his policy would be viewed as a success. But by setting the bar so high if anything short of that happens it will be called a failure and wasted money.

Just my Opinion.

NOTE: I have nothing against Obama and hope he succeeds. I didn't vote for him but he is my President now so I will give him respect.

Justice served. Thread moved to rant. Thanks SC.

I started this thread in Personal Life because it says this:

Personal Life
Life happens... Need to get something off your chest? Post it here. This section is only available for users logged into the site.

Where as Rant says this:

Sometimes it's good to vent. This section is now moderated.

I just want to say that I wasn't "venting" and I just wanted to get something off my chest... Why would this thread be moved to Rant. Not that it is a big deal or that it bothers me but I just don't see why anyone on the SC would go though the 2-10 seconds just to move a thread into a new location. Pointless is what I am getting at just seems pointless to me.

Maybe his expectation is really 8 million jobs but he didn't want to set the bar too high so he said only 4-million jobs. That way, if more are created or retained his policy...

As a registered Obama "non-fan", I thought his opening and subsequent answers were well done. He followed the basic pattern of telling you what he was going to tell you, then he told you, followed by telling you what he just told you. Same principle followed by every news reporter in every paper published. (This is the reason that some people can read a dozen or more newspapers a day as they only read 1/3rd of each article). I listen very carefully to each word, the phrasing, the body language, the eye movement, the breathing and most importantly the veins on the side of the neck. Obama did a very good presentation. I kept seeing Bill Clinton in the mannerisms and ease at which he stood at the podium. His entrance walk was confident, his initial opening remarks facial expression was serious, and his exit walk was tall with shoulders back. Every visible indication of confidence and completion of the task. His delivery was articulate, with only a couple of minor word stumbles. He was well prepared for the questions and clearly planned ahead on the call list. He even appeared to ensure that a good "mix" of networks were represented. He did not show favoritism via race. Even FOX was called on to ask a question.

His position that the critics have lost credibility had resonnance, however I'm not sure he understands that his party was in control the last 2 years. His rehotoric is consistent with the liberal victimhood position ("it's not my fault - I inherited this mess - and if I fail - well it's still the repubs who got us here"). Not quite true. But his delivery was articulate, confident, and imo successful.

He doesn't write his own. Probably wrote some of his own, but he has a speechwriter for the big ones. Not only that, but the speech writer is 27yrs old!!

It's not that simple. Obama essentially DOES write his own speeches (the 2004 DNC speech that put him on track to the presidency was all his, and he's authored best-selling books), but now he's got several speechwriters helping out of necessity... not enough hours in the day. Even then, Obama generally writes the outline himself and uses the speechwriters for editing, feedback and polish.

He also doesn't make up words as he goes.

"Misunderestimate"

"Hey, y'know... we're all MERicans here, from a great and growing nation of more than 300 people, and MERicans don't misunderestimate the importance of speechwriters in protecting the freedom of MERicans. That's the terrorists– people who have no disregard for human life and want to go nucular on us. I'm telling you there's an enemy that would like to attack MERica, MERicans, again. There just is. That's the reality of the world. And I wish him all the very best. We gotta have speechwriters because a lot of times in politics you have people look you in the eye and tell you what's not on their mind..."

Oh, so much material, so little time... ;-)

Not true, as others have said, but I was refering more to the town meeting in Indiana Monday morning that I watched, not the press conference. He had a unfiltered audience and took questions from the opposition, something old "W" would never have even considered. He was able to answer to both sides on his own, and did it with dignity. It's sad to see that the war on intellegence continues.
