My step-dad had a daughter who died when she was very young. He only has one photo of her, which he carries in his wallet. Luckily, his wallet survived a serious truck accident in December! (he is a semi truck driver)

Would anyone be willing to try and restore this photo for me? I am just not very good at restoring pics!

Thanks in advance :)

Jenn

that would be great. working on a small scan like that isn't really efficient ;)

A larger copy would definitely be helpful!

I just asked and that is the biggest and only copy he has.

Hmm.. no possibility to scan it in a larger resolution?

I just called and she is going to see if she can figure out how to do that. It's been a good 7 years since I have touched a scanner, myself...LOL!

I saw that it was at 200dpi. 300dpi would be ok, right?

Oh yeah, the higher the DPI the bigger resolution image file you'll get. If it goes up to 600dpi that'd be great. If not...

I also have a 20D+100mm macro and had to digitize around 40shots. Did a few comparison tests with an old 6year old scanner , the 20D+macro did better. You need a tripod for this, use natural light, should do better if it's a cloudy day, or just diffuse the window light with a sheet or something. You'll see you will get very minimal or no reflection off of the photo. Good luck!

I gave it a try. It looks a little like a painting than a photo. Wish I could have done better.

Tim

ETA: Gave it another try off the higher res image and it is improved a bit. The image above is the high res version.

Ok, here is a 600dpi version:

Okay, so I haven't finished and I don't know if I will be able to finish. I don't really do photo recovery and I don't have a lot of time for this but here is my work on it. I wanted to try and maintain as much detail and edge distinction as possible. Anyone else is welcome to finish using what I've done so far. Let me know what you think.

I think folks will need a higher resolution image file. The bigger the file the more they can keep the photographic qualities in the final edit. For those that ask, you might want to send them the full jpg/tiff, unresized. Can use a service such as www.yousendit.com to send over huge files.

Gave it a shot, but I did it from the smaller pic (didn't check back to find the larger post).

I tried to fix it up for you. It's a tough call.

Wow! You guys are amazing!!! The fixes look great :)

Thanks to each and every one of you for helping me (and my step-dad) out. I really appreciate it!

The problem is that this photo is only wallet sized to begin with. It is the only photo my step dad has left of his daughter and it is so torn up that he can't keep it in his wallet anymore.
