You rock, Tony!

But seriously, are these the worst open challenges announced in a while or what?!
02/11/2009 12:33:28 AM · #78
Are you referring to the news ones forming Week 1 of the Olympics, or the Pets/Apple

I have ideas running through my head already.......We will see what we can come up with.......
02/11/2009 12:36:01 AM · #79
I was thinking of gas stations/titled horizon, but I'm just being negative... Note to self: MUST BE CREATIVE!!!
02/11/2009 12:39:36 AM · #80
Must be creative, must be positive, and we can try and get off to a good start.

Will be just as challenging for the other teams as well
02/11/2009 12:44:51 AM · #81
Don't worry Kai, My goal for the DPC Olympics is that I want to be confident of getting a 6+ when I enter each week, even if it doesn't materialise. My goal for the year is to get my average up to above 5.75, so I am going to have to work very hard :)
02/11/2009 01:28:30 AM · #82
My local petrol station had a malfunction yesterday it read 999.9c per liter, to bad it was a day too early :)
6+ per week, if we do that we'll give the Olymians, Poles, Icelander a run for their money.

Nice work on a top 20 finish in the "end" challenge Lonni. Gotta keep that flowing through to the DPCO.
02/11/2009 01:31:22 AM · #83
Well whether 6+s materialise, I'm not too sure, but I thought I'd get a 6 for the 'End' challenge for example, and I got a 5.80. Bottom line is, I'm gonna try really hard :)
02/11/2009 04:18:12 PM · #84
Well, i am with Lonni, I will try hard, but the results may vary.......
Unfortunately, Idea 1 for this week can't be done as I can't access the place due to the Fires
Idea 2 did not work yesterday due to crappy weather, but hopeful
Idea 3 still has potential
Idea 4 might just be a little too difficult.

But hey, challenges have been out for less than a day, and I have 4 ideas........thats a record for me

If I've learnt anything from previous DPCOs, it helps if you don't leave your shooting to the night before... guarantee to get 4s and 5s. Now, some might argue that the fact that I did just that with my Pet Portrait entry (which is currently looking like it'll be a new PW for me) suggests I didn't learn anything. Not true... I just chose to ignore the lessons for this non-DPCO week. :)

Seriously though. The earlier we get our photos taken, the more chance we have to process, review (with the help of others if need be - provided they don't vote on your image) and reshoot if required.

I know it's not always possible to do so, but I hope to make the most of you guys, utilise this teams abilities, to improve my entries and thereby give us the best chance of beating the more favoured teams in the competition... and having a hell of a good time doing so.

Go Team!

I haven't decided which challenge to enter as yet. I really wish they were advance editting.
I entered pet portrait at the last minute, I was expecting a 5.4 but am currently on 6.03.

Good luck with your ideas team.

Really I was expecting 6 and am getting 5.4 :) (actually was hoping 5.5-6.0)

Scouted the location of my gas station idea on the way to work this morning, couldn't get a decent angle, oh well I'll have to think of something else.

Actually I stand corrected, my first DQ, I was getting carried away with learning some new photoshop techniques and didn't go back and check the rules carefully enough! I was under the misconception that any layer was an adjustment layer as long as I didn't add any new images and it applied to the whole photo equally, using a high bypass filter to sharpen is not an adjustment layer because it contains image data (albeit the original image) and is not applied in normal mode. Dumb yes, but better I do it this week rather than next!

How are we going gang?I don't have a shot yet. Don't panic, I'm sure the perfect shot will present itsalf to me in time:)
02/15/2009 04:13:39 AM · #91
I haven't taken a shot yet. Have plans to go out and about tomorrow afternoon, which will give me a day and a bit to process and retake if need be.
02/15/2009 03:01:21 PM · #92
Given Melbourne was covered in smoke all weekend, horizon shots were out :( Still time.
02/15/2009 05:19:34 PM · #93
Im with the rest of the biys. Didn't thin a photo of smoke at any angle would meet the challenge.

It is meant to lift this afternoon, giving me a couple of hours to shoot......

I'm the same as you guys, because it's been raining heavily in Sydney (almost constantly since Thursday).
I'm hoping to head into the city tonight with my camera once my husband gets home from work to look after my daughter.
02/16/2009 02:24:15 AM · #95
Wish me luck guys - I'm off to the city now.
02/16/2009 06:58:39 AM · #96
OK - I've posted in the google group, hoping for critique - give me your worst Vlado :) And your honest opinion anyone else who wants to have a look. And remember, please don't vote on my entry if you do look.
02/16/2009 08:14:25 AM · #97
Lonni, I've sent you my review. I've also posted a link to my entry and other candidates to the group. Anybody that is willing to give their 2c... please feel free... I'm here to learn... but remember, if you look, don't vote.

While I'm here, how is everyone else doing. I have a few ideas I'll be happy to throw peoples ways if they're struggling.
02/16/2009 04:10:44 PM · #98
Well, I have some photos (but they are not downloaded yet) but at kleast I have something.

Note to self: Be careful when Photographing Places like Petrol Stations etc. You seem to attract the attention of Security if you walk around with a camera taking pictures of random things........
02/16/2009 05:04:14 PM · #99
Well get them up Kai!

I really didn't like the challenges this week - gas stations just was so uninteresting to me, and tilted horizons are one of my personal irks. I keep looking at my entry and thinking "it's OK, but it would be better without the tilt"!

Well Vlado, your review didn't give me much to go on, but I'll do some processing on my shot today and see what you guys think.

Anyone else got an opinion?

This is why I asked the attendant before I took any photos and offered to show him the photos afterward. Had some questions about what they were for, but figured it was easier to explain it to him than it would be to explain it to the police.
