why sign up then ?

it sounds like a poor excuse to me, and a waste of time for those that are coordinating the whole thing - if that's really how you, and the rest of the team are thinking....

personally i don't find it LMAO at all. i find it crude...

I'd read the whole thread before I'd make this comment. Motivating extremely talented photographers that have lost their interest in this site to participate once again is a very worthwhile endeavor. I personaly have been inspired by some of the people on team olympian and look forward to competing directly against them. So in a way, what Judi is doing has inspired me again. We owe her gratitude not attitude.

her statement sums up her statement - i don't need to read the entire thread. it's great you have been inspired to come and participate, and that some/all of the folks on her team are what inspired you. however, how can you compete directly against them if the team as a whole isn't necessarily commiting to the challenge ?

it isn't really competition if the ones you think you're competing against don't try..... IMO that attitude is counter-intuitive to what you say you are inspired by...

you do need to read the whole thread....her comment refers to the way other reacted to her "stacked" team.
02/27/2009 02:19:36 PM · #305
i don't care about a stacked team ! that's where the competition stems from...

but only if - the TEAM actually competes against you... !

and it appears they didn't.... oh, and Judi seems to find that humorous...

i'd equate it to me playing you in a game of chess. i'm better than you at chess, and you'd like to be as good as me. so we set up a match, and i don't try at all. i let you win. is that win fulfilling to you ?

A win is a win.....I'd only have your word that you "let" me win. Maybe you were distracted :P

if i were distracted would be a different situation... would it make a difference if i openly acknowledged i didn't try - then i went ahead and laughed at you because i let you think you had a win ?

please don't let me turn you away from this site and its competition/s & learning potential. there is a lot more here than the DPCO...

Keep in mind that what the Olympians/Medal Hoggs team is doing is not reflective of the original inspiration for the DPCO and what DirtDiver is trying to accomplish. Which is to get us to enter more, have some light-hearted competition and get involved in challenges we normally wouldn't...get out of your own safe zone which helps you learn new things. :) The DPCO is not the issue or the problem.

Thank you Ernie that is EXACTLY what I am trying to, get more people to enter challenges, raise stats on the site, get users to join as members, learn, team up, work together, and everything else. Now I didn't start the DPCO but I did kind of take it over because I saw the way people reacted when cujee opened up the idea. I saw the good it brought to the site and the way people reacted when it was announced. If I could produce site statistics you would see the amount of participation that goes on during the DPCO.

Thanks to everyone that plays, thanks to everyone that played. Thanks to all those that will play, stacked or not. THANK YOU everyone.

It is you that should be thanked Joe. You have my gratitute and should know that this is the exact effect the four DPC olympics I've competed in has had on my attitudes torwards photography and skills as a photographer.

Congrats on the bronze Tim!

i understand that - and i my posts were sort of trying to defend that principal...
although when you have a competition website ( and we all know it's competetive ) - then add a second level of competition ie: DPCO - people are going to want to win - or do as best as they can ie: TRY to win. it's the nature of competition...

i took Judi's post as an insult to what Dirt_Diver, and all else involved with putting DPCO together are doing for the community - as well as those using their efforts in the sense you describe. which is why i said "why sign up then ? " - in my original post. and i think her or her teams philosphy - if she was being honest ( and i think she was ) - undermines the intention of the DPCO...

not to say Judi isn't a decent contributor to the community as well, but having a big to-do about a stacked team, only to have that team come out and say they really aren't interested in it, and using that as a means to explain why they didn't do better is pretty lame IMO.

I agree with what you are saying for the most part. When she announced her team I was one of the people that had a problem with it and was vocal about it. I also see your point about the explanation of the lack of effort.

In all honesty, I do not believe Judi was trying at all to do things that would upset others. Unfortunately there was just some bad optics in the way that things took place, and I think her response after the first week was another case of that. I do not think she is trying to rub it in our faces which is how it may come across to some. I think that she was simply trying to say "hey, now do you believe that I was not getting all overly serious about this DPCO?" It came accross a bit as not caring about it at all, which I am sure is not true. No matter what she comments now it will be interpreted the wrong way, so I feel she is in a bad spot. I do not think she meant it in a bad way. She tends to have a bit of the same "speak first, think later" thing going on that I generally do, and it always comes back to bite me in the @ss!

well i suppose. but interpretation is one of those things you have to endure when you post in a public enviroment. it's too bad that her, and her team seem to think that ( edit ) their non-commitment is furthering the purpose of the DPCO (...

it's unfortunate the team most balked about seems to feel they don't need/or want to participate, and at the same time - laugh in the rest of our faces...
