I was not inferring that you broke any rules I was just commenting on the reasons that you put forward for organizing this team.

As for sharing photos and ideas!!! Well in my point of view the less said the better in this case.

As for Judi's team. So what, I like the challenge. I see a couple of other teams that look strong, and most of the teams, including Southwest, do not have a legit shot to win, but we will try and improve upon our 4th place from last season. That's the case in all arenas of competition, even if it is for a virtual ribbon and bragging rights. From my personal life, I understand Judi's point of view and I take it at face value.

So, Judi, I think it's time you tell the entire truth...you really are bummed that we beat you last season! ;)

Hahahaha...yeah....absolutely.

Actually, to be quite honest, I know that my interest in DPC has been waivering of late...I am not really interested in the competition as much per se...so that is one reason why I decided to do this...to still join in the challenge...but to add the twist to it by taking off the competition part and making it more relaxing and creative....and I know that others are in the same boat.

Some of the members haven't entered for quite some time...whilst others are current...therefore they all have something different to bring to the table and all have different reasons for being a part of this team....but most importantly...I wanted to take the pressure off them to compete to win and help them try something different in their own way.

It appears from the outside that the Aussie team got shafted a little.

Just out of curiosity is this group of “non ribbon hogs” going to be sharing photo’s, ideas and techniques during this side challenge?

Please tell this is tongue in cheek.

And if you are serious, how would the "noble gesture" hold anymore integrity if she wasn't on it? Her reasoning makes perfectly good sense to me.

Yeaaaaahhhh I am sure that was your intent Judi.

We will all have to try a little harder to beat 'this' team. And I am sure we can all rise to the challenge, it would not be called a challenge otherwise!!!!

Good Luck Judi her team.

We will put up a good fight for top of the board!!!!

There have been a few grumblings in the forums over 'The Olympians' team. I promised I would reveal what the team is about once I had the team finalised. The team is now finished, so here is what we are up to.

All the members on this team have very hectic lives...like most of you. We have all won ribbons in the past....some more than others. I know that someone called our team 'Yesterdays Heroes' and there is probably some truth in that as some of these members rarely enter on this site anymore. So many people get driven from this site because of the whinging in the forums and on their images about repeat styles/subjects/techniques. Instead of members celebrating when someone wins a ribbon....they belittle it.

And then when a side challenge like this comes along....the majority of the people on this team are the ones that are usually the first ones that are hassled to be on teams...to help that team win....and this puts more pressure on them to do so. But more times than none...they are expected to carry the team. And yet they get crap from so many members when they do win. Other teams then start grumbling about that team winning only because of the 'big guns' on the team. And when those teams don't win....again they start complaining. Those 'big guns' are human too....and yet they are damned if they do and damned if they don't.

Many of them are leading extremely hectic lives and can't always enter challenges....but in a side challenge...the pressure is on for them to do even better. You see so many teams and members taking breaks from side challenges and DPC in general because of the pressure to do well or the crap that gets thrown at them.

So I have built a team...but not the 'Ribbon Hogs' type team as you might think. There is a range of levels within the members....of all abilities. And some may not be entering each week. This is a team where there is no pressure to win...just to relax and have fun...enter when we can...and enter what they like without having the team on their backs. Allowing them to be themselves....and not be what the other members want.

The whole point of this team is to be an International team that just joins in the fun...not necessarily to go out and win. I don't care if we come dead last...but at least I know that my team members have enjoyed the experience and entered images that they want to enter...and not just entered what DPC want them to enter just to win a ribbon.

I don't want the 'ribbon hogs label' that seems to follow a team like this...instead I am trying to show sportsmanship...by letting the usual ribboners just have fun for a change.

There has been so much competitive crap going on in these side challenges....I want to try and stop that and just let people have fun....take it back to what it was originally intended to be.

I hope that makes sense.

So our team is as follows -

Judi
IreneM
Coley
Librodo
Brat
HotPasta
Yanko
Grigrigirl

And as I have already done in the Aussie thread...I wish all the teams the very best...and please everyone...just have fun...let's leave the nasty streaks at the door. I, for one, will be happy with whatever my team do....they can use toy cameras or mobile phones if they like...as long as they enjoy themselves.

I think the more competition and more teams there are is just great.......howerver I just wanted to make sure that it's understood that the Aussie Team is a great team.....kind, laid back, honest, competitive and loyal. I don't know how other teams have acted in the past but I'd hate to think that we hasseled anyone to join or expected anyone to carry the team because we haven't. I think most teams expect more of the bigger ribbon players ...it's only natural.
I've been in a lot of the dpc olympics and the DPL and I have to say it's been a real pleasure 100% of the time. I've never came across anyone in my teams who felt like they were being victimised. Maybe I'm naive, maybe I wear rose tinted glasses, but I just enjoy the whole thing and thought that it has always been fun for everyone.

I know our new team has great members. People that I respect and admire. People with talent and people who like to play this game.

Good luck to you all out there....watch out for us.....our spirit will be hard to beat....our scores- only time will tell!

Naomik...I enjoyed my time captaining your team in the past. Can I ask why then, are a couple of your members upset and think it is such a crime that I created a new team that is made up of many origins....not just Aussies.

Glad you enjoyed captaining our team, Judi...we will miss you, but Vlado is such a great choice for captain and I'm sure he'll lead us to even greater heights of team camaraderie and sharing of ideas.
I can't talk for others only for myself.....I think I was disappointed that you left us...even though you are perfectly entitled to do so. Rather like a ship without a rudder so to speak. A feeling of abandonment. These are just my feelings at the time, but as I said with Vlado in charge I feel he will do an admirable job and I know I can say this for all of the Aussie Team...we are very lucky to have him and all the members of the team.

Thankyou Naomik. And I agree in your choice of your current captain...he will do just fine.

As I said in your thread, I wish you all the best and know that you will do well in the challenge....although I am a little saddened your team chose to ignore those well wishes.

I have never had any intention of upsetting anyone, so please tell me how I could have handled this better? Should I have stacked a team just to win like the majority seem to think I have done?

I thought the Olympics was meant to be about playing for your country or region (in contrast to a DPL etc). I knwo int he past there has been a team that was mixed, but i thought that was because a couple of people from different areas could not fit into a team for their area. Maybe I have that wrong, but the majority of the teams follow this, and calling it the Olympics also leads to these conclusions.

You say this is a team of people that don't want to be pestered and have the responsibility of carrying the team. I don't know if that happens or not, however a number of people just opt to not be part of the olympics. They may enter all the challenges during the time, but just arn't on a team. It is not like the Olympics gives anything other than an extra incentive to go out and take photos for the challenge, and a little bit of banter with people you might not already know.

I think that the way it was done made people come to the conclusion, rightly or wrongly, that this was a stacked team. The names on the team list also may lead to that conclusion. Having Dummy names in the team list so no one else could join while you finalised the players definitely made it look this way. It looked like a way to get around the 'first come, first in...." rule that goes with the olympics. Whatever the intent was, I can see why these conclusions could be made.

I am just looking forward to submitting in all the challenges during the olympics, and some fun with my team. The eight of us will wave the Aussie Flag high, knowing we are part of Team Australia, have a lot of fun and represent our country...........

In light of the "stacked deck" ringer team coming into the DPCO-IV, I am going to continue the alternate scoring method for DPCO-IV, awarding points based on score over average instead of simply score. This had a great levelling effect in DPCO-III and will do so once again this round.

So this will at least give all the teams something to play for.

Thanks!

Joe, I am glad you are ok with it. It will help the rest of the teams to stay interested since the "medal hogs" will likely run away with it.

Just for a bit of fun.....please don't take offense anyone.......but we are currently seeking another member for our team (sorry Kai, but I can only see 7 names...correct me if I'm wrong) a member who has a least 50 ribbons, is highly competitive and motivated and wouldn't mind personally tutoring us rather amateur bunch of photographers for several hours a day!!!! ( THIS REQUEST IS ONLY FOR FUN.....unless you really have 50 ribbons!)
