Both my cameras, Canon 10D and Canon 30D were stolen sometime back and now I am looking to buy the 5D Mark II ( the insurance paid for the loss :) ), but I can't find any in stock at bhphoto. Any suggestions where to get it from ?

thanks,
Gaurawa

Maybe these guys?

Whoa... they have several, but no wonder... they're $1000 over list price.

Maybe here? The price and store ratings seem OK. Worth a call to see if they actually have one.

you could also try calling B&H or your local camera store and see if they are taking pre-orders or if they have any in stock, a lot of shops around here are not advertising that they have some but if you call or walk in you might get lucky. I got the call for mine 4 days after I got on a waiting list that I was told that I might see one in April...

Just how much equipment do you buy from them that when they get something new in they think, "Oh, I know who might buy one of these, lets give him a call"???

ETA: Never mind, just saw you answered that in your last post!

Stock on the 5DII is in and out at most stores at this time.

Sign up on the NowInStock 5D Mark II page for alerts (make sure you choose the immediate type). It will email you when stock changes on the 5DII at most of the big stores (Amazon, B&H, Adorama, Ritz, etc.) I got mine buy snapping it up from Amazon 2 minutes after I got the email alert.

DO NOT pay inflated prices. You should only have to watch email alerts for a couple days, max.

I had mine the morning of November 25th - the very day in which the camera was released. Check out Pictureline as they've been really good about getting them in stock.

Try Calumet, I only had to wait 2 weeks for mine. It just came two days ago.

Check your local camera stores. That is where I got mine.

If you don't already have the 24-105mm L lens, a top quality all-purpose lens, then the kit is the way to go. Should cost you $3500 for camera and lens combined.

Good luck!

I had called bhphoto, the sales representative told me the computer won't let him take any pre-orders.

Cool - let me know if it works for you, too. Like I said, I only had to wait a day or so, but obviously it's kind of random.

It does seem to work, but I have to keep an eye on the email all the time.. I got an email at 6:21 this morning for availability at amazon at 2699 price. I was a little late, I did see the listing at amazon but by the time I could check out (at 6:29am), it was gone! I guess too many people are getting this alert.

Buying a camera was never that tricky!

Yes, it's definitely tricky. I'm lucky because have a desk job so email is always right there.

It is worth you being aware that with high demand items such as this, frequent delivery and dispatch times mean that items can come in one door, be packaged, and out of another within a couple of hours - so real time inventory is often not possible.

Unless the items actually hit the shelves, our computer system generates an automatic message indicating that it is out of stock.

We are expecting another delivery in, I think, about a week but of course customers who have placed back-orders will get precedence.

If you ever have any queries regarding an order or purchase from Adorama Camera or AdoramaPix, you are always very welcome to contact me directly: helen.oster@adoramacamera.com.

Sincerely
