Hello all. We're planning for this years Redrock GTG in the southern Utah area. Actually the 4th Annual Red Rock GTG (I can't count).

We'llhead to the Utah/Arizona border between Kanab, Utah and Page, AZ. It will allow us to go to Antelope Canyon, Coyote Butte (The Wave), Zions National Park, and even to the Grand Canyon.

We're looking at June 11-16 (Thurs - Tuesday) with flexibility (come for the days you can come.)

It's official! We have 10 rooms held for us at the Treasure Trail Motel in Kanab, Utah from June 11 through June 16, 2009.

Now, it's time to make your reservations. Use the Treasure Trail Motel reservation web page to make your reservation. You can cancel up to 48 hours before your reservation without any charge. You'll need to give them a card number to hold the room, but no charges will be made until you arrive.

They do fill up in June, but it's early enough to have plenty of space right now.

When you make your reservation, put that you are with the DPChallenge Redrock Get Together (Becky Tesch). The rate chart in the link is current. If you have AAA, there's a 10% discount.

For those interested in a less pricey option, I talked with Crazy Horse Camppark, @ 625 E. 300 S., Kanab, (435) 644-2782. They have RV, but also have tent sites for $16/night + tax. That includes the shower, etc. and wireless internet. Of course, you would need a tent, or similar.

Interested: dwterry, alans_world, yakatme, HikerDude, dsidwell, WCpilotout of the country, TLL061, quiche, treimee, goinskiing, eva2k0, work issues, sceneit, dacrazyrn, rider, , life, Rebecca, justamistere, and PhantomEWO
Committed: rjkstesch and husband, nald, jrtodd, jbsmithana, Artifactspart of the time

I'm interested. I've done Paria Canyon and always wanted to do a few of the others around there.

It would be great to have you make it - you're always interested. We just need to get you there. ;-)

Uber interested here. I may be off photojournalizing in Guatemala during that time (nope, not excited at all!), but nothing is concrete yet. They're having trouble raising funds for the season, and I'll be an early cut if they have to make cuts. So we'll see. But if I'm around I would be interested in the full week.

Thanks for the PM and getting this started Becky!

I'd certainly be interested in coming back down again this year Becky. Not sure as yet but I'll let you know when I can firm it up. I spent a little time in Zion before meeting you all last year and would love to go back and explore the area, especially Coyote Buttes!

the Wave is tough to get into. Had a MD I worked with that had to put in 8 months prior to get to hike in there.

Yes, it is hard to get into. As mentioned in the 1st post, there's a lottery system to get permits. However, now it is set up that you apply up to 4 months in advance for 3 possible days. During the most popular months, March - May, you have about a 10% chance of getting selected. Going in June will help increase the odds. All we can do is try.

I'll keep you guys posted, not sure how much time off I can get, but I would like to come. I just can't say definitively say either way. I'm on the complete other side of the state of Utah so it'd be quite a drive too. But, I may be interested, would be fun. I'll let y'all know though.

My 1st "GTG" was over our anniversary with a group from SLC. It turned out to be wonderful. We were away from home and responsibilities and were able to leave the group for our own time. For the past several years, the Redrock GTG has been at our anniversary. For us it works. ;-)

Becky,

Are these dates firm? If so I will go ahead an book my ticket when I get back home next week. (I'm here in Utah now for work) My wife and I are planning a vacation trip to Moab in May so it will be nice to get a double helping for S.Utah so early in the year. The only bad thing about Florida is it's to far from Arches!

Hey Becky,
Thanks for the PM and the info, but I think we'll have to skip this one. April temperatures out there were bad enough two years ago, I can't even imaging what it will be like in June. I look forward to the images, and you guys will all have a blast. This has been one of my favorite areas of the country. I just think that I need to see it in January when the temps are down into the mid-80s.

They are soft-firm. In other words, the only hitch would be getting rooms. I'll work on putting aside a group of rooms in the next couple of days.

I do have a question of all of you. Are you okay staying in Kanab and making a side trip to Antelope Canyon and the Page area, or would you like to spend some of the time in Page?

I'm definitely interested and will be watching the thread.
