There seem to be several suspect photos in the current "Red" Challenge. There are several photos that do not meet the criteria of 'the colour red leading to the impact of the photo'. Does anyone agree??

which do you have in mind?

I saw a lot of orange. I don't feel that orange is red, either. One in particular didn't even have much orange in it.

If you feel this way though, you should use the "Recommend Disqualification for this Picture" link found at the bottom of every voting page.

Personally, I don't think you can disqualify any of the images whatsoever. Keep in mind the criteria is "your interpretation." It just may be that this person's psychological relation to red is an image that is, in fact, devoid of red.

The challenge does read that the color red must lead....

That seems fairly clear.

Hmmmmm. Perhaps some of us are colorblind! I agree with dequinix. If you don't like the picture, vote on it accordingly.

If I were asked (and I'm not, but you're going to get my opinion anyway), disqualification should only be recommended for a picture where you suspect cheating -- i.e. post-production not allowed by the rules -- or if you recognise the photo from a previous challenge, stolen from another website, etc.

If you don't like the photo, or don't think it falls within the guidelines set by the challenge, then vote low.

I was suspicious of one photo that I recommended disqualification of. After pondering the photo all day I thought that perhaps I was wrong. It was a shot of a flower with lots of electric purple in it. I realized that perhaps the 'purple' was originally white, shot with a blacklight and slightly overexposed. This would give it a surrealistic look. My apologies to the photographer and I wish I could retract the recommendation.

Why bother with the challenge at all then? I go back to the statement in the challenge that 'the COLOUR RED MUST lead to the impact of the photo". I would have thought that anyone can interpret this as atleast having some red in the photo?

Actually I have voted accordingly. I still don't think that that excuses the lack of adhesion to the challenge criteria.

I agree that a photo does not have to have the colour red in it in order to be accepted. You could have a photo of someone really angry perhaps, to some people red has conotations with anger. Maybe a photo with the colours blue and yellow together would have made you think for a while, until you figured red was missing because it is the other primary colour?

A fellow participent said my current submission (Lightbulb) "...needs to be 'red'.". The lightbulb I took a photo of was the _red_ lightbulb hanging in my room, but the bulb came out a hot white in the photo, I thought it worked - it was my interpretation.

Regarding the lightbulb -- you may know that it's red, but most people associate lightbulbs with white. If it doesn't come out red, how are we supposed to guess?

Okay, just went back and had another look at it; it's not what I would have called hot white at all, more yellow/orange. It's not a bad picture, though.

Ok, thats true.

I got my Digital Camera one week ago today, although I have been taking pictures (still and moving) for a while I am still getting used to it. There are some wonderful photographs submitted for this contest, I only really join in, in order to further my own photography.

BTW, the number of submissions are growing every contest, it wont be long before we'll have 400+ photo's to vote on!
