I've noticed a trend on scores from my last 3 entries. The early votes are kind of sporadic, up and down. This usually is the first couple of days. Then there is a drop. Down votes for a while. Then more up and down. Then the last couple of days it starts to go up. And then finishes better than it started.

So I'm hoping this pattern still holds. Because right now, I'm on the downwards spiral, and it's early.

Mine has been all over the place, was 6.75 after 10 votes, 5.8 after 35 votes, got back to 6.2 then has hovered in the 6.1 territory. So far I am pleased with how it has scored just cracks me up how much this one has moved. A graph of the scores would likely look like a mountain range in the Alps which is likely to be only way I will ever get to see the Alps!

Typically they go up during the week for me, but my two entries are on the slow, steady decline after the first night doing quite well. I hope the last couple days are nicer for all of us.

Too close to my first ever 4.x score for my liking. I promised myself if I ever got to the point where I entered a challenge just to have a challenge entry in it and it got a 4.x, I'd retire from entering challenges.

Looks like this could be it for me.

On a more (slightly) positive note:

You have commented on 9 images (2%) in this challenge.

I might take it down to 75 for this month. Depends on how I'm feeling on the weekend.

my image was rising again and doing well (mid sixes) and then I got a comment from a baghead that said "nice detail" accompanied by a vote of 2! shakes head

Depending on how diligently you monitor that update button, score and comment may not be attached. I will often score, then comment later. Sadly, if someone gives you a 2 at the same time I comment, you probably assume I gave you a 2. This is not the case.

Dont feel bad, I got the santa baghead comment that also said something to the effect of nice, and got a 1 to go along with it.

I think you all need to re-read Deb's comment. I also vote and rank the photos and then go back later to comment. There is no real connection between the two so it is almost impossible to tell if the score came from the last commenter or not.

I am pretty much addicted to the update button, so I am reasonably sure it was the same person. Oh well, all fun and games. ;)

With all due respect, since I was sitting at my computer and was updating once every 2 minutes or so I do not think I am mis-interpreting. The fact that Hot Pixel had the exact same thing happen certainly backs that up.

Either way, it is nothing to get bent out of shape about. The scores come and the scores go, and there is nothing at all I can do to control it so it would be useless to waste too much energy getting excited over it. :)

Just to add, i am also an avid follower of the update button and also track my scores spreadsheet style. I can almost guarentee the commenter and score are one and the same as my views and votes only went up 1 for 1. Like Bassman, not that we can control that. Just an observation.

Cheers.

it's even more unlikely that you will leave a comment the exact time someone else votes on that photo

I was thinking of entering the FS 2009 Marathon. But, forgot about it...obviously, a blessing in disguise based on this score...YIKES!

I stand corrected! I did not mean to sound harsh as I too think we need take scoring with a grain of salt.

There's one shot in this challenge that i find very confrontational and shocking and did not want to have to see. I feel entering a shot like this is not considering other peoples feelings and sensitivities. I am pretty shocked and disgusted that this image was entered.

I know what you mean. There are idiots everywhere. They get some perverse pleasure out of stuff like that.

Anyhow, my score is continuing the downward trend. Sitting at 6.3x

So it evokes some strong emotion? Sounds like a good shot to me! :-O

I do not think you will have to search very far. There is one that actually upset me because it really is insensitive and simply there for shock value. There is no photographic value to it whatsoever. (IMHO of course)
