Looks like Blackbox left us rather abruptly. Too bad. I enjoyed his work.
12/29/2008 08:52:09 PM · #2
What gave you the impression he left?
12/29/2008 08:57:17 PM · #3
I'd say because his portfolio is gone.

Hmm...I see his portfolio just fine. What are you seeing?

welll, reading the comments in his latest entry for the "all i want for christmas" challenge, he seemed pissed, but no real sure fire say that he's gone.
EDIT: nope, his portfolio is gone for me. sad.

I'm sorry he left... and I felt in agreement with him about the true meaning of *Christ*mas on his *Christ*mas entry... until the last few words of his sentence convinced me that ... well.. .that ... hmmm... nevermind.

I will admit that I was surprised to see the two winning entries. Being a newcomer to these challenges, well, I wouldn't have brought it up particularly because I thought they are both well done photos but, I myself didn't vote on these and am still trying to decide how I feel about posting to a site where the members choose to ribbon nudity. I don't know how many 16 year old photographers there are here but I know there is at least one and that doesn't sit well with me.

Somehow dropping an F-bomb Christmas greeting, does seem to undermine his high moral ground...

I didn't go anywhere - but I might. I'm very, very upset right now. And, if I have to look at what I consider nudity and a slap in my face this 'holiday season', then I think reading the 'f' word is about an even exchange. I can take that comment away but the photos I'm upset about are here for eternity. Don't get me wrong, I'm not upset at the photographers and I'm NEVER mad at where my photos place: I'm upset over the fact that the voters voted nudity as the best photos at such a reverent time of year. I think it is disgraceful to the human race.
12/29/2008 09:51:55 PM · #10
I find the human form a thing of beauty and something to be admired, not ashamed of or embarrassed by.

eta; I had a whole lot more to say but in the interest of world peace, I'll hold my tongue, for now at least.

I didn't say I don't find the 'human form a thing of beauty'. Nor am I ashamed or embarrassed by it.

Well, there's only one in the top ten that shows any "reverence", so the other 7 should be just as disturbing to you as the nudes then?
12/29/2008 10:08:55 PM · #13
Never mind.............................

If you don't like it... you do always have the choice NOT to look at it...

I never said the photos were disturbing to me either.

This is true - except during the voting stage.

Sorry, your word was "upsetting", used with "angry". My mistake. I'm confused now. Just why are you upset?

edit to correct another misread.

I appreciate that Blackbox isn't upset with the photographer but merely the fact that their placement is a... how's he put it... oh yes, a disgrae to the human race.
Well the very nature of the challenge title suggested a Santa Clause approach rather than a Christian one. If for instance the challenge title was 'What I'm praying for during this most sacred of holidays', I would have approached it a bit differently... at least covered the nipple completely. I made a concious effort to limit the amount of 'skin' out of a show of respect for some members here that tend to get offended at the drop of a hat... so much for trying to be nice. Next time I'll do what I want, within the rules of course. I'd admire your position alot more if you didn't feel the need to make such a public display of your disgust.
I almost forgot...
HAPPY F***ING NEW YEAR!

We are still in the Christmas season. Is there any chance we can all just forget about arguing over nudity, expert/advanced/basic/minimal challenges, politics, religion, setting villages on fire and whatever else tickles your fancy. Everyone is different and you will never agree with everything...nor will everyone agree with you...so for now...can we just put all this aside...there is a whole year ahead for arguing. I am personally sick of it all. This is a family site...if it wasn't....there wouldn't be so many stringent rules in place.

PLEASE NOTE:- This post is not aimed at any one person...but at the site members in general.

Well, since Judi said to stop - I'm stopping.
12/29/2008 10:35:44 PM · #22
And to show good faith - I will take away my 'public display of disgust' unless anybody has any objections?
12/29/2008 10:37:34 PM · #23
I'm confused. There's nudity on the front page? What was a disgrace to the human race?

No, there's not nudity and I'm the disgrace...
12/29/2008 10:45:53 PM · #25
it is easy to be confused--the member who asserts his disgust and shame at being a member of this site over the ribbon-dressed ribbon-winners at this
"reverent time of year," drops the f word, names himself "Heavenly Father" on his profile, and states his location as "Hades", and invokes "what would Jesus do" on the profile as well.

His removal of the "public display of disgust" is a simple strikethru, so not really removed at all

Seems like attention-seeking instigation to me. This is what the Ignore Thread feature is designed for :-)
