| I just got a Canon 580 EXII flash and I am now looking for some sort of diffuser. My only problem is that there are several options to choose from, and I have very little experience with a flash which makes it hard to select one. Up until now I have shot very little indoor shots, focusing more on sports, landscape, and wildlife photography. I would love to have one or two diffusers that would get me started. I am looking to shoot mostly portraits, family photos, etc. |

I have two different types and have had three.
Best I have found is the Joe Demb Flip it.
Next is the fongsphere(which I gave away here on DPC)
When I am shooting sports and need a bit of fill I use the Stofen Omnibounce.
WHen I'm not shooting sports the Omnibounce will never get used, I gave away the lightspere because I felt it ate too much light and gave generally flat lighting. The Demb flipit works really well for bounce and fill and eats less light then the fongsphere.

I recently got a 430EX and was given a Stofen Omnibounce diffuser as a freebie with it. I haven't really used it much, as I have been finding the best diffuser is the ceiling.

if you're using the ceiling - try pulling up - but not flipping down the little plate that's slid into the back of the flash head. tends to not affect the ceiling bounce - yet adds the catch lights to the eyes

 soup, do you mean pull out the plastic cover and the bounce card and leave both sticking up, or just the white card?

I've heard that the Ultimate Light Box - Harbor Digital Ultimate Light Box - is a very good option. I'd like to try it myself to see if it's worth buying.

i'm not sure what you mean... ( don't pull off the plastic cover.... ! )
pull up the one that's on the back of the flash tip. it's sort of slid into the back of where the light comes out... i think the technical term is 'catch light reflector'.

| I think the intended purpose of the pull up doohickey is to diffuse the flash when you are using an extreme wide angle, so as to avoid flash vignetting. |
