A nice break in the weather a few days ago gave me a chance to get some bird shots.

Anyone else get any?

Oooh, lovely! :) More? More?

I went to the lagoon yesterday and spread the last of our barley but didn't get much in the way of shots, though there was a total feeding frenzy. Tomorrow, when the feedshop's open, we'll get another bag and go back.
My poor little hummy's the only other I have;

Ok - one of a cold Anna's I startled awake.
BTW - One of the few I shot at 1600 ISO. The new D300 works so much better at high ISO than my old D200 or D70. I now routinely shot at ISO 400-800 for birds.

And to answer Crissya's question on it, as well as Flaggspett it's also known as a Great Spotted Woodpecker, found in Europe and northern Asia, apparently :)

No, no, if the feeder were totally empty THAT would be embarrassing :)

Nothing special today but managed to snap a few, the Bald Eagles are back in town and I plan on getting out to snap a few of them this year.

Thanks for all the nice comments on the woodpecker. And thanks BeeCee for finding the English name.

Ok, so it's a zoo shot. I should be getting the new 300mm today so I am quite sure I'll have some more in a day or two!

You all have such great shots! I had a crazy squirrel destroy my feeder Christmas Eve. Wish I had a shot of that!

Old-hat shot I couldn't resist, since it relates so well to the last one posted:

One more for good measure. I called it Freezing My Ass Off and it could go for both the Heron and me that day.

Never fear...I'm sure no one here will judge a man by the size of his backyard bird...;-)

They may be mundane but they're still beautiful :)

Okay, just so Art doesn't feel so embarrassed, I'll post a couple of my crappy shots from Saturday. The last of our bag of barley got wet when the shed tap exploded so we had to used it up. It was freakin' cold out there but the birds appreciated the feed.

Okay, that's an understatement. It was a regular feeding frenzy! The one swan started out of the water to meet us as soon as he saw us and was chasing hubby, wanting the whole bag instead of the little pile hubby poured him. I had to grab a quick shot as I was still crossing the road because it was just too funny.

And talk about having all your ducks in a row...
