Lensbaby should be paying everyone participating in this thread. Fabulous advertising.

I want one!! (Oh well, have to wait until I decide on an upgrade route)

Hmmm, maybe you'll reconsider...when I think of your deliciously mysterious and moody flora images, I can see you using the lensbaby to play with the mystery even more than you already do :-)

The whole Lensbaby phenomenon (and it's MUCH larger than DPC, of course), is an early and stellar example of a company prospering by viral marketing; they have grown by leaps and bounds from makers of an oddball niche lens into an established manufacturer of a unique and much-desired product entirely on the strength of word-of-mouth from devoted owners. Just like what's happening here :-)

Is it January already?

I knew I should have set my alarm clock.

Which could have something to do with the fact I can't get my hands on one.

What's that status on that anyway Deb?

I have not heard back from Lensbaby on why it went back to the warehouse or whether it has been re-shipped. I think they're kinda closed down for the holidays so it'll probably be next week before I hear anything. And B&H is out of stock again - I was going to reorder from them then return whichever one got here second. So not looking like it'll be any time soon, unfortunately. And I keep seeing things I want to shoot with a Lensbaby! At least I'm thinking about it... that'll have to do for now.

Update - apparently it was returned for not having a customs form. They will reship. Given the holidays, I figure maybe by the 14th or so I should see it here. Keeping fingers crossed and expectations at a minimum!

Well Deb, in the meanwhile, here's an overpass for ya:

This is an unfocused shot (can ya tell?) shot at 60 mph; no viewfinder, no focusing, no nothing... I find it oddly compelling, but in the end it's just a curiosity I think.

A few more warm-up shots...

After the new year, I think I will actually go outside and shoot.

My lensbaby got stuck in customs. Will be delivered on Friday 2nd. Yippee. Looking forward to getting it!

There is one danger with using Lensbaby, at least for a middle-of-the-road hacker like me. I exchange photographs and wisecracks with Lesley goodman, and though she admits to liking some of my Lensbaby images, she says that they do tend to all look the same. Of course, she’s an artist, equally comfortable with paint, charcoal, clay or camera. She doesn’t need Lensbaby to see in a novel way; she has no choice but to do so. Smartass bitch.

you can get the same effect, and some other interesting results with slow shutter speed imho.. :)

The closest I've ever come to getting the Lensbaby effect was with a slow shutter speed and a zoom burst. (Image here) I think I'll go back and try this shot with the Lensbaby for comparison. (note: I didn't post the thumbnail because I didn't want to pollute this Lensbaby thread.

I hope that everyone will fill in the aperture information on their images. That will be very helpful to me as I try to understand how to use the lens for different subjects and effects.

Now, before this challenge officially begins, I want to thank Ubique for his very helpful post on 12/29, and Art Roflmao for his very encouraging comments. I'm psyched and ready to go.

And here's probably my last LB of 2008, as the blizzard settles in. I had hoped to do the fireworks tonight with the LB, but that's not looking like a very viable option at the moment...

Beat ya to it by 4+ hours, slowpoke. Good idea to post it here, though :-)

Uhh... uhh... in my defense, I thought maybe folks would like to know in more than one thread. Yeah, that's it! :-) And no, I have no idea when or if I'll ever have a Lensbaby. My charge card shows I've paid for two now.... sigh...
