I have the FLIP.

I used it to upload video onto my Alienware laptop.

Laptop specs are...

Vista Home basic SP1, Intel Core 2, T5500 @ 1.66Ghz, 2Ghz RAM, 32 bit Op. Syst.,
there is still 6.62GB of free space on the hard drive.

I have uploaded the video onto the desktop.

I opened up the Windows Movie Maker and made a 14Mb movie.

When I go to render/publish the movie, the Movie Maker shuts down, closes, and a window pops up saying that WINDOWS MOVIE MAKER STOPPED WORKING AND WAS CLOSED, A PROBLEM CAUSED THE APPLICATIONS TO STOP WORKING CORRECTLY.

The movie is done, I can not publish anywhere, not the hard drive, not a R-CD, not email, and not back onto the Flip.

I would love to keep the movie without losing the data if possible.

Does the Movie Maker need a patch?

Is there a fix somewhere?

Is it buggy?

Any thoughts?

Thanks in advance.

That's very tight. Movie Maker uses a lot of swap space when it's rendering movies.

Try downloading and running Ccleaner to clean things up (google it, freeware) - I'd say free up another 10Gb or so on your HD. Also, run Windows update to make sure you've got all the patches etc.

Not sure how. I can make coffee, but I am dumb with this stuff.

Will give it a try.

Have you cleared the dialog that says "Movie Maker needs to close"? That typically shuts down the program and you won't have a chance to save.

Or, is the dialog gone and you still have the option to try and save?

6GB is so-so, especially for movie editing. You might try emptying your recycle bin, or deleting some larger files you don't need like old .psd files. Then again, the error may not be disk-space related.

I'm not familiar with Windows Movie Maker, but can't you save the project even if you can't export the video? Also try Ralph's suggestion.

Good luck!

I use Movie maker with vista. Works pretty good. I'd say increase your hard disk space and try.

I am not so sure its a HD thing. Remember, I can't even publish to an R-CD.

Try this.

Yeah, 6GB is cutting it awfully close, though I have a boot camp partition with just 3GB left on Vista Business 32-bit and was doing some small video editing for my work and had no such problem, I will see if there's a hotfix, it just sounds buggy to me.

Not quite sure if this is your problem, but it's worth a try I guess.

So I did everything everyone said to do.

Windows Movie Maker is still shutting down during the publishing process.

I gained a little over 3G of space on the hard drive after cleaning.

I did he Administrator thing.

The hotfix was not the fix I was after, I had no issues with preview.

I am stuck.

Any thoughts?

ok right click mycomputer go to properties-advanced click performance settings advanced virtual ememory change write down the current value, then set it to 0
boot from your winxp cd and go to recovery console and run chkdsk
then boot normally go start programs accessories system toos disk defragmentor and let it run..
when done reboot again normally and restore the virtual memory to what it was.

Now what this is doing is emptying out the swap portion of your drive checking it for errors and defragging the drive to clear the space up then when you put the swap drive back on it will be more pristine and easier to for windows to orgnize. this will take some time to do but could be a big help (in general it will help system performance)

edit scratch this your in vista not xp..... gerrr um yeah good luck

Yeah, I can. I actually have CNet open with the freeware download ready. I just hate the thought of losing all that work and having to re-edit the thing again.

You think this is the course of action?

so you have this vid all que'ed up in MM ...and can't publish?

If you can't publish...can you save the "workspace". I don't have my MM computer with me but I think you can save the "file" to come back and work on it without losing anything.

Then...when you reload you should be able to "open" that file...

The video is saved via MM, but not publishable.

Tried every format, HD, R-CD, back onto the camcorder, email...all fruitless.

Do you think NORTON has something to do with it?

I think Kenny was suggesting that you save your project and the workspace (into My Documents), then reinstall MM, then you could load it up again and try with a fresh installation.

Of course, before that, have you tried rebooting your computer? (It's always worth a try. =)

Got it.

Will try to reboot.

Will let you know what I find out.

May be a bit later, I am going for a bike ride in a few minutes.

Thanks.
